Title: Repair on a termi cf can
Post by: craig697 on October 13, 2011, 09:41:47 AM
HI, sucks that my first real post is to ask this, my wife dropped her 010 696 damage was minor thanks to speedy moto sliders. My question is about the 45 elbow that slides into the can. It is the part with the the bracket that mounts the heat shield. this is loose I have removed it and on the inside of the flange on the can there looks to be a bead of high temp epoxy. Is this how that elbow is secured to the can and if not any suggestions on how to repair this. thanks for any input you guys have.

Loose is stock.

High temp epoxy or any other securing substance is an aftermarket add-on.  The Termi cans do wobble around, maybe somebody attempted a fix in your case?

The elbow is just a push fit with the can.

Thanks for the reply, I had a better look yesterday the bead I saw is from the outside weld at the flange. the play on the can on the side the bike landed on is much greater than the other side, to the point that when mount and adjust it the can falls in toward the center of the bike.  I guess my question is would it hurt any thing to take the play out of this joint by cementing it into a fixed position so the can will stay symmetrical to the other?

A small part of my insanity came from attempting to get my M696 Termi slip-on cans symmetrical.

They are always slightly prone to a wobble at the touch.  Yours sounds like its greater than the usually.... um.. acceptable.. amount.  I had some success by slightly - and I mean slightly - ovalising the elbow pipe where it enters the end can, just to tighten things up side-to-side wise.

Thanks sounds like a better plan than cementing the pipe in place will post update when i have finished. The rest of the parts to fix the bike are on the way from monster parts will post some pics in the general forum when bike is fixed.
