Title: 1999 monster 750 just purchased. Time to get it running smooth! Slow throttle
Post by: drewbabich on October 17, 2011, 06:17:19 PM
Just purchased my first Ducati.  1999 monster 750 dark .  Time to get it running smooth! Right now it has some thick squishy rubber grips and a slow throttle returning throttle.  It is harder to twist and slower to return to the home position.  My girlfriends 620 dark monster throttle snaps back to home position.  This one goes back but does not do it fast.

I'm going to open it up and look at it and try and grease it.

Bike also has 8000 miles and the 6k service was not done.

Bike has more torque to lift the front wheel in first then my girls 620, but it does not have nearly as good as throttle response.  It also just feels a lot slower.

Obviously it could probably use a good carb clean and valve adjustment.  I want to try and do that this winter.

I'll also open it up and check the belts.  Any immediate advice on this slow molasses like throttle feel?

Check to make sure the grip isn't rubbing on the throttle housing.

I took the throttle cables out and lubed them with some oily lube.  Then I worked them in an out for a while and now it snaps back like it should.

I took me like 2 hours which is pretty embarrassing.   I noticed some oil on my lower spark plug when I check them. I wanted to compression test it but they are smaller then normal spark plugs
