Title: Vic rides thread Post by: ducmeister on October 19, 2011, 02:21:23 AM Hey all you vicmo's post up if you're heading out. That Sydney mob have been showing us up for too long.
Went the long way out to Mt Macedon today with koko64 and had a superb ride. [Dolph] Sun was shining, no traffic, good feed at the Top of the Range Cafe, [coffee] [popcorn] [bacon] would be good to get a bunch together once in a while. I'm on hols for a couple of weeks so up for a ride most days during the week. Cheers. Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: Sundog on October 21, 2011, 06:43:08 PM Hi fellow Vicmo. I'm at the opposite end of the pitch to you, down on the Mornington Peninsula so I don't get up to Mt Macedon/Woodend etc very much. Still, for a nice enough ride I'd be game to travel a bit. Let me know what you plan next.
Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: koko64 on October 21, 2011, 07:58:44 PM I'm glad you knew where you were going, cause I had no idea! Those "blue ribbon" farm back-roads were great, but you must have a GPS in your frontal lobe!
We gotta do that Gippi ride with Unge soon. Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: AussieBulldog on October 22, 2011, 12:02:26 AM I will try and fit in when I can
North eastern area for me Whittlesea, Yea, Panton Hill, Kinglake. Happy to tag along wherever if time and work permits ;) J. Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: ungeheuer on October 22, 2011, 01:50:07 AM We gotta do that Gippi ride with Unge soon. ;DYup. Hopefully we'll have some good weekend weather soon. Had some great spring days.... but they all occurred while I was working. I went riding today in the rain on the DR, not great weather for Ducs though ;) Maybe we can fit a weekend in in November sometime? Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: heatherp on October 22, 2011, 03:49:41 AM Umm I need a 300km headstart. [roll] Unless y'all wanna come west to visit me. [cheeky] Most of the Grampians is open again although the best bit (Zumsteins) may never be re-opened :'(
Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: ducmeister on October 22, 2011, 03:52:44 AM Gippi ride sounds good. There's some great roads down there. [Dolph] If we could all wangle a day next week I'll be in but I'm not too keen to be out over cup weekend. Too many idiots and tourists on the roads. :o
G'day AussieBulldog. I'm currently in Hurstbridge but soon to be Panton Hill so if you're heading out this way post up or send me a message. I work shifts so availability varies. On hols next week though. [thumbsup] Hey Sundog, sounds like you wouldn't be too far away if we did go for a Gippsland ride. I guess it just depends on everyone's work schedules and stuff. Tony, it's surprising what sort of crap I can remember but suffice to say that I forgot to take the key when I went to my mate's place to work on the 'wing today. [roll] Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: ducmeister on October 22, 2011, 03:56:52 AM G'day H,
What? Not reopen Zumstiens? But that is the best bit! So is there any good riding between here and the Grampians other than the GOR? Something we could make a day of perhaps? Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: madalf71 on October 22, 2011, 08:35:26 AM Hi All.
Still kicking but bogged down with study, on the last straight to the end of the year. I've been going on some short rides to Yea "Marmalades" and back for study lunch. Very much like to do Gippy again. I'm sort of over the Healsville/Kinglake/Spur, due to revinue activity. Keep me posted Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: AussieBulldog on October 22, 2011, 03:24:06 PM Ducmeister,
I'm an Eltham lad, so just down the road from you. Ride through Hurstbridge all the time. It's my early home from work run, out through Doreen, Kangaroo Ground, Panton Hill etc. Just getting used to having wheels under me again after a long time out of the saddle. Today is looking awesome after the storms last night, heading out your way today between 11 and 1. You out and about today? J. Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: ducmeister on October 22, 2011, 08:51:05 PM J,
Sorry, missed you today. I'll PM you with my contact details in case you can get out during the week some time. Cheers. Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: Sundog on October 22, 2011, 11:29:36 PM I have this Thursday and Friday off as an extra long weekend if anyone wants to go for a spin.
At this stage the weather appears to be looking ok, but this is Vic so anything goes. Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: ducmeister on October 23, 2011, 12:30:05 AM Yup, I'm in. Thursday's probably better for me but I could make Friday happen if need be.
Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: AussieBulldog on October 23, 2011, 02:45:56 AM I will try for Thursday, won't know until later in the week how clear I am.
Will give you a call to have a chat tomorrow Duc. Lovely day out on the road today [thumbsup] J. Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: heatherp on October 23, 2011, 05:47:31 PM G'day H, Hi RobWhat? Not reopen Zumstiens? But that is the best bit! So is there any good riding between here and the Grampians other than the GOR? Something we could make a day of perhaps? Zumsteins sustained some serious damage in the January storms. (House size rocks on the road, numerous land slips!) The Dunkeld-Halls Gap road only re-opened last month. I think there is a lack of money/interest for the repair work to be done. Public pressure may change that. I don't know of any 'great' roads out this way for a day ride. I would plan on an overnighter. GOR and Grampians then through Trentham, Woodend etc on the way back maybe. I may go on the DOCVic ride to Meredith next weekend so I can check out some more roads on the way to and from. Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: Bazz21 on October 23, 2011, 09:18:23 PM all wecome to crash here ,and plenty of road to explore , matty would be in his element here with the chook chaser

Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: ducmeister on October 24, 2011, 03:05:09 PM ok so who's in for thursday?
Sundog, I assume you're able to make it. AussieBulldog, did you manage to get time off? Tony, where are you at mate? I'm thinking about heading out through the Dandenongs towards Noojee and trying to make a loop of that some how. The Dandenongs seem about half way between Mornington and Eltham so would be a reasonable place to meet up. This is only a suggestion though so post up if you have any better ideas. Cheers, Rob Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: koko64 on October 24, 2011, 04:23:54 PM Friday 10-.2.30, Sat morning, Sun morning (while the teenagers sleep!)
Thats my availability. I can turn back half way if needed. Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: Sundog on October 24, 2011, 10:47:20 PM I'm good for Thursday. Its the better of the two days for me, Friday looks wet.
I'm open to any other options that come up for destination that peeps may have, just not the Spur. Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: ducmeister on October 25, 2011, 03:18:22 AM Cool. Sundog's in.
Also we still have to decide where to go and where to meet. Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: Sundog on October 25, 2011, 03:47:29 PM Cool. Sundog's in. Also we still have to decide where to go and where to meet. Unfortunately I'm now out >:(, my physio had to change his dates and I now have an appointment tomorrow (Thurs) instead of this Saturday. Sorry all, but I'm still keen to get together soonest, maybe a weekend fits in with everyone better and the days will get brighter in the next month or so. Plenty of opportunity. Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: AussieBulldog on October 25, 2011, 09:15:24 PM Cool. Sundog's in. Also we still have to decide where to go and where to meet. I can do tomorrow from about 1PM, will be getting home about then. Is this too late for you Duc? J. Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: ducmeister on October 26, 2011, 12:08:12 AM Sorry to hear that you can't come Sundog and also that you need physio. Hope all is not too serious.
AussieBulldog, thanks for the call. We'll catch up tomorrow. Last chance for anone else who might be interested ... Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: Sundog on October 26, 2011, 02:37:03 AM I wish it wasn't too serious, I snapped my Achilles about 7 weeks ago and just got the cast off. I have about 12 months of physio ahead of me to get back to normal *sigh*
But at least I can ride, its only my right foot so who needs rear brakes anyway eh? Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: ducmeister on October 26, 2011, 04:22:39 AM I wish it wasn't too serious, I snapped my Achilles about 7 weeks ago and just got the cast off. Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: ducmeister on November 27, 2011, 02:53:33 AM Rain? It pissed pickhandles around here. Went out for a ride on the pushy this arvo and there's water still flowing across the roads and gravel everywhere. Even the turtles were heading for higher ground. Not a good day to be out for a scratch.
Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: heatherp on November 28, 2011, 12:36:28 AM You lot should have got out of Melb. I left Hamilton on Friday, headed to Phillip Island via Sorrento Ferry. Up to Dargo for an overnighter Saturday night. Back to Phillip Island Sunday night via Mirboo North then back to Hamilton today. Wouldn't say there was no rain but certainly not much. Sunday and Monday were lovely riding days.

Should settle down again after Christmas though. Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: koko64 on November 30, 2011, 05:22:09 PM Hey Rob/Unge.
Hows the move Rob? Looks like we'll have another Monster rider with us. My brother picked up a nice 2001 M900S ie, last of the 888 style frames and the right color. I like my old school carb model though (it looks ancient in comparison)! Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: ungeheuer on December 01, 2011, 01:12:59 AM You lot should have got out of Melb. Finshed my TAFE course Yay!!!!!!!!!!! I don't want to see another spread sheet or Australian Standard between now and NYE. So hope to join you soon, I've been having some morning breaky rides up to Yea and back, Marmaldes. I did see a review recently on the Jameison-Eildon road. Cheers. Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: koko64 on December 12, 2011, 11:14:48 PM Some morning breaky rides to Yea are what we are planning for the hot months. I have done it in winter too, but on those summer days when its gonna be real hot, the early morning rides are great.
Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: heatherp on December 13, 2011, 02:59:34 AM DOCVic are riding the Jamieson-Eildon road this Saturday. Check their website for details.

Also the wheel bearings could use a bit of fresh grease, when the steering head bearings got replaced on the 'Comfy' ST it made quite a noticable difference. Mmick Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: heatherp on January 08, 2012, 11:03:17 PM Heather, have the steering head bearings been looked at recently? I know what you mean about the difference new steering head bearings make. Brad Black is doing the service and I know from experience that he will check all the bearings - he's very thorough with things like that. Plus he knows how paranoid I am about bearings with my past experience of having a wheel bearing collapse on me. Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: ducmeister on January 09, 2012, 04:19:33 AM Last service for me Brad changed the throttle cable. Unbelievable difference. Like it had 10 extra hp. So much better response (or so it felt). Screwed up my gear changes for ages. And here I was thinking that I was just getting smoother with age.
Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: koko64 on January 11, 2012, 01:27:02 AM Hey Ducmeister/Unge
Time to organize a Gippi ride. Maybe the weekend of the 21st? I reckon we meet in Toolangi and Unge can lead us from there. Every 2nd weekend is good for me. Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: ducmeister on January 11, 2012, 04:15:04 AM Hmm, I'll check with the social secretary.

Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: lukevo on January 18, 2012, 10:20:29 PM You guys probably have your route sorted but thought I would mention latest issue of rapid bikes magazine (issue 70) page 99.....article on the snowy mountains loop which runs for 315 clicks, mentions good places to stay and even discloses some of the known hot spots [leo]

Hatto's ride through the Snowies to PI 8) ;D Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: ducmeister on January 21, 2012, 12:41:13 AM Hey Tony and George,
Top ride this morning. We'll have to do it again soon and drag a few more of this Vic mob along. Yes, I promise to wash my bike before the next ride. Cheers, Rob Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: heatherp on January 21, 2012, 02:54:01 AM Yes, I promise to wash my bike before the next ride. Don't wash it Rob. I rode home from Melbourne on Tuesday night so had to wash the millions of bugs off as it didn't smell very nice. Now I'm dreading taking it out and getting it all bug spattered again. Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: ducmeister on January 21, 2012, 02:59:30 AM It's still got mud on it from the MotoGP trip. I think it's due.
Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: GK on January 21, 2012, 11:21:39 PM Hey Tony and George, Top ride this morning. We'll have to do it again soon and drag a few more of this Vic mob along. GK Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: ducmeister on January 22, 2012, 01:32:57 AM GK, would you believe I bumped into Rich and Kate this morning?
Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: GK on January 22, 2012, 04:28:58 AM Funny you say that. I wondered if you had in the past, or would sooner or later, as they're quite close to your place.
Small world for sure! GK Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: heatherp on February 19, 2012, 03:58:35 AM Yay I'm going to the National Ducati Clubs Rally 2-3 March in Jindabyne. Second trip there for this year. Maybe I should just move to the High Country.
Riding with friends from DOCV and some Sandgropers. Will be riding the Bonang Hwy to get there - damn. So I suppose that means riding along the Snowy River way as well [Dolph] [thumbsup] So when are the North Sydney trailer boys gonna be there? [roll] Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: Jukie on February 19, 2012, 10:50:46 PM I think they will be down there about the 22 of march hmmm.
Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: ducmeister on March 17, 2012, 01:54:31 AM Hey all you Vicmos, I'm thinking about a ride on Saturday the 31st of March. OK, it's the first day of the school hols but a well chosen route could still keep us out of the way of all the tourists.
Post up if you're interested and I'll have a think about where we might be able to go. Cheers Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: Sundog on March 18, 2012, 03:26:42 AM Like to but I think my bike will be in the shop getting the clip-ons and reservoirs swapped
Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: ducmeister on March 19, 2012, 03:47:28 AM Like to but I think my bike will be in the shop getting the clip-ons and reservoirs swapped Because ? (should I know this?) Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: Sundog on March 19, 2012, 06:33:01 PM Because ? (should I know this?) ??? umm, no, I was just saying that I'd love to come but my bike will be in pieces.. :( Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: AussieBulldog on March 19, 2012, 08:31:12 PM I'm up for it [thumbsup]
Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: ducmeister on March 24, 2012, 01:43:24 AM ??? umm, no, I was just saying that I'd love to come but my bike will be in pieces.. :( G'day Sundog. Yeah my response was probably a bit strange but changing clip-ons and reservoirs just seemed a bit unusual to me and I thought it might have been discussed in another thread that i hadn't read. Hey AussieBulldog it will be good to have you along. Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: koko64 on March 26, 2012, 02:16:33 AM Sounds good, is GK coming?
I can make the morning half of it and into the arvo a bit. Teenagers will sleep in and then study so I'm partially free for the day. Where are we meeting and going to? Who else wants to come along? Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: ducmeister on March 28, 2012, 11:54:17 PM Ok, the suggestion is Yarra Glen at 9am. AussieBulldog does this suit you? Are you based on this side of town?
Anyother takers? Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: koko64 on March 29, 2012, 02:32:56 AM At this stage there are five or six people coming along, and on all sorts of bikes.
See you on the main drag at 9am opposite the main servo. Should be good fun, weather permitting. Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: koko64 on July 06, 2012, 11:45:39 PM Sat 14. I want to ride, all day.
Weather permitting of course. I don't care if it's 0°C, as long as it's not pissing down. If you can't come for the whole day then come for part of it and head home when it suits you. Title: Re: Vic rides thread Post by: ducmeister on July 07, 2012, 05:24:25 AM Hmm, I'll really need to see how the week pans out. Saturday will be my last day living in Victoria. Driving to Brisbane on Sunday.

Will still be around on odd occasions though and will still have a bike here for a little while yet so may manage to get out again before I'm gone for good. It's just been sooo cold ...
