Title: Belly pan install with Termi (DP) midpipes
Post by: psycledelic on June 20, 2008, 10:51:12 AM
Anyone here tried installing a belly pan with Termi midpipes?  It is on my 06 S2R.  The pipes seem to have a different routing then I have seen on other bikes.  Instead of running under the motor, it runs back about 2inches to the right of the oil filter.  I am concerned about the amount of material I am going to have to cut away to try and make it fit.  And more concerned about cutting said material away and it still not fitting.  I would love to show pics, but I can't seem to get them to load.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thx

I think it has been mentioned here and by Jeff at MonsterParts that using the Monza with your midpipe will require "some mods" on the pan. I don't know which mods, but I'm sure someone will let you know - or call Jeff?

i installed the carbon monza pan on mine.  the midpipe does make it a tight fit.  it seems there was only one correct angle for me.  Once on there is one 2 inch long spot where the pipe and the pan will touch.  mine smokes from time to time so i will be installing some header tape/wrap there and then reinstalling the pan.

You can get a good view of it on this pic

Thx guys,

Cowboy, that was the pic I needed.  I just hated to go cutting on it with no mental picture of what I wanted to end up with.  Is your pan using the mounting hangars from all 4 bolts?

I actually bought the pan from Jeff.  He had sent me some pics of his bike to give me an idea of what he had to cut away.  His front pipe seemed to be more centered under the bike.  Might have just been the angle of the pic.  My pipe runs exactly the way that Cowboy's does.  I sent Jeff an email for his opinion, but you know how it is when you get a new part.  2222 opinions are better then 1.

Yes I used all of the bolt holes provided.  Remember to loctite them since you are bolting into some critical areas of the bike leaking would be bad and without it they do loosen up as you ride.  For confirmation I did not cut the part at all to get it to fit.

Cheers

What did your mounting kit come with?  The one I have has 4 bolts and 4 washers, but only two hangers.  Should I assume there is two of the hangers missing?  (I think they have to be, because all of the bolts I would use are inset into the casing)
Sorry, I thought you cut some off of the right side.  Must be the angle of the picture.  Thx for the heads up on the locktite.  That could have been a mess.

The hangers go up front and attach one end to the pan and the other to the bike casings.  the back goes directly into the casing.  the angle of the hangers affects how it fits.  I had to essentially get it lined up and wedge a bolt in and then tighten.  then gently stretch push the pan into place for it to line up properly.  Take your time and it will go on as it's supposed to with no cutting.

If I were doing it again i'd first wrap the midpipe the 3 inches where it will make contact.  Second I'd use loctite from the get go as opposed to mounting it to test and then disassembling and remounting - it's a PITA.

Excellent.  I appreciate you taking the time to help me out.  Your advice will save me a lot of trial and error.  Thx again for your help.
