With the dollar still above parity I decided to give this a try. I know some others have considered it so I thought I would post about my experience.
Tyres were purchased from motosport.com in USA.
My last set were Michelin Pilot Road 2CT. I got plenty of milage out of them but they were past their best. I decided to go with something different and bought the Continental Road Attack 2. I got both front and rear tyres for $285.
To that I had to add freight. They have a flat rate deal of $29.95 to Aus.
Delivery took about two weeks. Part of that was because the courier (DHL) do not deliver to PO Box addresses. As you can track your delivery on the interweb, I noticed mine had been delayed in Melb so I rang them and gave them a street address. Apart from this I expect delivery would have been a bit over a week.
I then had to take them to the local dealer to fit and balance. They stung me for $50 to do both.
So all up it looks like this:
Tyres $285
Delivery $30
Fitting/balance $50
TOTAL $365
I think it would have almost cost me this much for the rear tyre alone if bought locally.
Now to go for a ride and test them out.
And just to prove it did happen, here are the pics.

Geeze. I know where I'm going next. Just saw my current rubber on there and it hurts my head to compare the differences in $$$ to what i paid 6months ago. And then you have the Australian retail industry pregnant doging about consumers buying online from O/S. This is why we do it people!!
Agreed!! My last 3 sets have been from these guys. PLUS they stock what I can't even get in aus, bridgestone bt002 I think in the old monster size 160/60. Sticks like shit to a blanket! And yeah, full set for about 330 fitted, not $600!!
Bought my last two sets of tyres from www.motosport.com (//http://) too [thumbsup]. Currently (still) running Conti Sport Attacks bought there, love 'em.
Please add your tyre buying/usage experiences here >> http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=45162.0 (http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=45162.0)
a lot of other forums are seeing good results from http://www.jakewilson.com (http://www.jakewilson.com)
$20 a tyre on loose wheels is the common charge for fitting
iirc jakewilson has some tyre fitting gear as well
i have picked up some gear from different websites and will do my own tyre changes soon as can be done
quicker than the time it takes to take the wheels to the shops
