speed varies based on how good the connection is, but for the most part it's pretty good.
It's nto as fast as my cable at home, but it definately works fast enough. I cna d/l video and as long as i let it sit for a minute before trying to watch it i don't have any problems.

My clearwire can go up to 700kb/s, but that is very very rarely...  at peak hours is is usually around 40kb/s... The only reason I use clearwire is because I'm outside the zones where I can get cable or anything else.  If I had the option I'd go for a faster connection, top rated speed for clearwire is 1mb/s, whereas the slowest cable rating is at something like 7mb/s I believe....

hate hate hate clearwire. They do super shady auto-throttling stuff.

In SoCal, I found their 4G coverage and speed to be worse than what I got from my 3G AT&T phone, so I just activated tethering on that instead. Works like a charm, have tethered my laptop, ipad, and kindle to it via bluetooth or wifi with no issues at all.

If you get an Android phone you can root it pretty easily and get free mobile wifi. With the Verizon 4G phones its pretty fast. I have 3G and use it for my Ipad and laptop frequently and its great. I also have the unlimited plan. If your a new customer you won't get unlimited so I guess its a moot point.

The Tmobile phones have this as a feature, no rooting necessary.  Up to 4 wifi devices.
