Title: Side cover mod - winter head start Post by: stopintime on November 02, 2011, 11:18:43 AM I wanted something smaller, showing more frame. Actually I'd prefer plastic, but it's so much easier to cut into carbon so Jeff at MonsterParts sold me a pair of Carbonworld covers (along with a few other items....) Tape them up, draw a pencil line, Dremel'ish cutting wheel, grind/sand, silicone mesh in place... finished. (hoping the clear coat won't start going rough on the edges, in which case I'll hand coat them with epoxy) (http://i329.photobucket.com/albums/l394/stopintime/Side%20covers/sidecover031.jpg) (http://i329.photobucket.com/albums/l394/stopintime/Side%20covers/sidecover001.jpg) (http://i329.photobucket.com/albums/l394/stopintime/Side%20covers/sidecover009.jpg) (http://i329.photobucket.com/albums/l394/stopintime/Side%20covers/sidecover014.jpg) (http://i329.photobucket.com/albums/l394/stopintime/Side%20covers/sidecover020.jpg) (http://i329.photobucket.com/albums/l394/stopintime/Side%20covers/sidecover029.jpg) Title: Re: Side cover mod - winter head start Post by: ungeheuer on November 02, 2011, 11:51:39 AM Nice neat job. Title: Re: Side cover mod - winter head start Post by: psycledelic on November 03, 2011, 09:02:18 PM Looks cool. I did my stock belt covers that way a couple of years back. Good job.

Title: Re: Side cover mod - winter head start Post by: teddy037.3 on November 05, 2011, 01:50:33 PM The IZ_ pictures? if only the pipemod had been blurred out... nice dremel work, btw [thumbsup] Title: Re: Side cover mod - winter head start Post by: stopintime on November 05, 2011, 02:34:30 PM if only the pipemod had been blurred out... nice dremel work, btw [thumbsup] Thanks! The pipe ugliness isn't as bad live, but still not pretty :( I've been through countless options, but nothing I've seen allows my feet this close to the pipes.... Custom CF instead of the rusty mesh maybe? Title: Re: Side cover mod - winter head start Post by: teddy037.3 on November 05, 2011, 02:47:17 PM Thanks! Custom CF instead of the rusty mesh maybe? I didn't mean your pipes... I meant AZ's pipemod *shudder* can't recall where off the top of my head, but I know I've seen universal CF heat shields for pipes, they're the rectangular kind, with hose clamp looking things to fasten them to the pipe Title: Re: Side cover mod - winter head start Post by: stopintime on November 05, 2011, 02:56:20 PM I didn't mean your pipes... Title: Re: Side cover mod - winter head start Post by: hunduc on November 05, 2011, 03:21:12 PM looks great. i went with no side panels a while ago, but this is very stylish.
did you think about doing the same thing with the belt covers? Title: Re: Side cover mod - winter head start Post by: stopintime on November 05, 2011, 03:24:51 PM looks great. i went with no side panels a while ago, but this is very stylish. did you think about doing the same thing with the belt covers? Yes - those are next [thumbsup] Probably not the mesh though - I won't risk the mesh coming off. Title: Re: Side cover mod - winter head start Post by: hunduc on November 05, 2011, 03:36:59 PM so what's the plan? lexan windows maybe?

Title: Re: Side cover mod - winter head start Post by: hunduc on November 05, 2011, 03:45:31 PM you saw that new thread in "general monster forum", right?

Yes - I'm cutting the center section, leaving the side walls to protect against pebbles, water and falling clothing ;) Title: Re: Side cover mod - winter head start Post by: stopintime on November 05, 2011, 10:43:12 PM ah, bummer... was there a problem with the CF ones that came with it? or... exhaust wrap? ceramic coat? hmmmm That's exhaust wrap on there now. I'll look into black wrap and maybe try to custom cut thin alu plates, drill several holes and bend to fit.
