I need to know if the M800 motor is the same as the S2R 800 motor, with reference to the external dimensions & such.
The reason is long and complicated, but it goes something like this: M900 & M900ie motors have same general dimensions, so aftermarket headers are interchangeable. The M900/ie headers also say they fit M800. I need to go "the other direction" and see if the S2R 800 = M800 motors so that I may use the S2R 800 headers on an M900....
I thought the differences between the M800 and the S2R800 were the mounting for the swingarm....IIRC...
Part numbers are identical for the cylinders, but not for the pair of half cases.
Not 100%, but I expect that to mean it's a header cross fit [coffee]
EDIT: the heads have different part numbers, so I'm not able to contribute.

Well, that gets me half way there, though. If there was such a thing as an inexpensive way to experiment, I'd be all over it.
They are functionally identical.
IIRC the third number in the part number is the supplier code. The M800 number is for 620/800 M/SS thru 04.
so, then yes: S2R800 header would fit M800 engine, which is also able to accommodate M900 headers. mwah ha ha ha ha ha
[puke]
that felt like a bad carnival ride
lol why is that?
just how quickly with the knowledge base here a conclusion was reached. quick spin cycle

you want a 30 page long and drawn out technical argument like an oil thread or something?...LOL
Bahaha.
Reason for question- I have the Febur SSS for the 900 (pre 02 frames). They made a specific exhaust for it, but it's not for me. I have, on the other Monster, a Sil header, which is purported to fit M900 & M900ie and M800. So if the M800 and S2R 800 motors are the same, then an S2R header would fit my 900 and conveniently exit properly for SSS...

On second thought, it won't work. The flux capacitor is too large on the S2R.
Sorry.
Where did you find this exhaust anyhow. . just curious.
Which exhaust?
The Febur offering for use with the Febur swingarm looks the double shotgun style. I'd like to get one of the aftermarket 'midpipes'/headers for the s2r 800 and do a 2-1, or use one of the side-by-side types if possible to get it around the suspension linkage.
just chain yanking
my other other thought is boomtubes. seems pretty straightforward and avoids interference with other setups.

Make your own exbox carbon fiber box. Should sound ok.
800 is the same dimensions as 400, 600, 620, 695 and 750, meaning that the cylinders are shorter than the 900.
you can jam a 900 system onto a small motor, but you have to bend the headers "in" to fit the ports. or you have to "stretch" a small motor exhaust to fit a 900. if the small motor system has a slip joint of sorts then it's easy. ports are the same shape, just further away from the crank.
not sure how much, but get some small motor inlet manifolds and 900 manifolds side by side. the long carby ones show it well. small motor are straight off the heads, 900 dogleg down toward the centre of the v.
