Was at MCA and looking at the summer jackets, but am wondering what it would be like if you came off?
Anyone got any experience / reviews / recommendations on getting one of these jackets
The sales assistant was very good and said that it would be best for a low speed crash and not a weekend thrash :)

I have a ducati motard summer jacket and it has hard bits in the right spots and Kevlar in others, I like it. I only wear it for local commutes when the going is easy. Longer feisty rides I wear my leathers with liner removed, try not to get stuck in traffic cause you will stew in your own juices!
Yeah, gotta agree, if you're going to put the knee down then a summer weight textile jacket is probably not the way to go. They're good for easy trips to the local coffee hangout but if your going to go the windies then stick to leather. Your skin will thank you.
I came off (low speed approx 20km/h) last year with a Teknic textile jacket on and while it did it's job and protected me, I didn't get any road rash, it was completely ruined and another second or two of forward travel would have seen it give up any level of skin protection.
So now I sweat it in my kanga skin leathers, a small price to pay, well actually not a small price, farkin expensive really but you get my point. ;)
Yeah understand, thanks for the info. My riding is mostly weekend spurts with the occasional trip to work, so I think I'll just sweat it out :)

Years ago when I was working in the Motorcycle industry. I came by a mesh jacket by Kushitani. Well from that point on I had to get every available mesh jacket. Later that summer one of the customers did have a very serious accident & swore the Kushitani mesh jacket saved his life. I still have my jacket, but after seeing a Spidi one with armor I decided to upgrade.
Yep I had a small off with a mesh Dririder jacket last summer. I only slid for 5 or 6 odd meters but the jacket was just about worn through on the sleeve in a couple of places. On one of the wear points the elbow armour was visible. I would say that it wouldn't have taken much more to wear the mesh right through.
From this point forward I usually wear leather unless its a very short trip. Better to boil than take the risk of losing your skin.
Funnily enough I was wearing Draggin Jeans at the time and the damage on these was barely noticeable even though the main pressure point was my backside [thumbsup]. But even these I would not wear if intending to to go for bit of a blat [evil]
So, I had an off some years ago now, with managed to rip a hole in my non mesh dainese heavy as shit jacket.... Somehow, I can't see how a mesh is going to protect when you really might need it....
My off 3 years ago I had a summer jacket on (dryrider). It has sholder and elbow protection and something that they called back protection but was just a foam piece. (I've since put in a good one).
It did a great job. I landed on my sholder as I was thrown forward. the jacket didnt tear. I was going over 40km when I was hit.
Sorry I didnt have kevlar jeans on as I lost a lot of bark on the knees and hip while slowing down on bitumen! [thumbsdown].
I only use the jacket to commute. - its now at least 5 years old!
