Title: performance modifications
Post by: catduke on November 20, 2011, 11:58:37 AM
I'm wanting to increase the power of my S2R 800 Monster without getting into any internal engine mods. Other than change the pipes, get rid of the udder, and replace the stock mufflers, I'm wondering what else I can do for more performance. Any ideas how to do this and what is involved in the process? My thanks in advance.

Larger intake, whether it be new filter, modifying the airbox, or installing POD filters and velocity stacks...

Then to go along with that a custom map/dyno tune to match your muffler/intake. Do not do one without the other. You will need a tune to match the intake/exhaust....

Once you do that, lighten the hell out of the bike

better suspension will give you more performance for your money than engine bolt ons.

I believe howie said once "how fast can it go, or how fast can you ride it?"

Suspension

Brakes

Fuel/exhaust

 [Dolph]

Open air box, filter, pipes, cans and reflashed ECU to Ducati Performance specs = 3-4 bhp and 8-9 Nm [thumbsup]
Power Commander III tuned by an experienced Ducati tuner = maybe another 3-4-5 bhp

not sure of your riding experience, but often times, the best performance gains are done to the rider...a GOOD track school can do wonders for your skillset and make a world of difference in what you are getting out of the machine....that having been said, I would look at tuning your suspension before adding power...

All the above is true. In time you find you do the lot, intake, suspension and track day/schools.
I swear my bike picks up 50hp and Ohlins suspension after a day at thd track on a gixxer! :D

14 tooth sprocket to start then a PC III dynotuned, open airbox and open up the mufflers, did all this to mine and it was like a new bike afterwards. All the "how tos" can be found on this site. And this all can be done for well under $1k.
If the budget doesn't run to a dynotune, I can send you my map and that will be good enough to get you going.

Haha...everyone always talks about CF parts and taking off whatever they can, but no one mentions this.  20lbs off the rider is 20lbs off the bike too.

Ahhh..., but is that unsprung weight?!  ;)

The older I get, the lighter I have to make the bike to stay in the black. ;)

20 lbs off the bike (bike) and 20lbs off the bike (rider) is 40lbs total removed.   boom, your mind is blown.

But until I can order CF replacements for my gut, going CF on the bike is going to be way easier ;)
