Title: Panic in Top Triple Park
Post by: MonsterHPD on November 24, 2011, 01:48:20 PM

The plan: Fit clip-ons above the top triples.

Cool  8)

I recently modified my IMA top triple because of an issue which you may soon experience:
It seems like the U-bracket holes will be lower than stock position. That can become a problem for some.

Glad you liked them. I will experience this problem, but in this case the problem is part of the plan. I also wanted to lower the fairing / instrument cluster for, well, cosmetic reasons. I just think that part of the bike is too high, I want a more hunch-back look over the tank.

Yup - really like them [thumbsup]

If you're going to keep the fairing, I think you need to cut, shorten and reweld the U-bracket below all the ears and tabs.... Is that how you see it?

Yes, that's exactly the plan. Let's see how it works out.

Progress is slow, but at least there is some:

There's an awful snakepit of cables and wires behind the headlight, and not much to do about it really.

Actually, most of the Duc wiring is an awful mess, really....someday I'll re-do the whole thing   >:(

I had that problem of the pegs not going all the way into the U bracket, annoying.  But they went in far enough to keep things from rattling around, so I left it as is.... Not the best solution, but it works

These look amazing....when will they be available, how much and will there be a 53mm version for SBK Showas?

Well, I don't really know how to go about to actually put them on the market, especially not "over the pond". A 53 mm version (for SBK Showas on a Monster, presumably ...?) would probably not be a problem. Price is always a problem, however, with small production runs like this. I think we had 7 pcs. made and the cost sans state involvement was somewhere around the equivalent of USD 350 - USD 400 apiece.

Ouch, to rich for me even before shipping.  Thanks for the info though.  They really are beautiful.

Thanks. And, yeah, prices are a bit different over here. On the other side, for a production run of 7 pieces it's maybe not that bad either ???  And I won't run into too many that are the same ;D
And my sense of what's expensive and what's not has certainly changed since I got into Ducatis  [roll]

Well,
glad you like them. This batch was made on order so they are all sold.

It has not been planned to make them generally available since we don't have that kind of organization (production, logistics, suppose one needs bullet-proof legal coverage or something as well).

As you can see a few posts above the cost of the small batch production run here (in Sweden) results in prices at your end that throws everyone but the most enthusiastic off .... maybe with a partner at your end...?

Kind regards.

Perhaps a way to get them out there would be to share cad files...  That way people who are keen (I'm keen) could use the files to get them made locally.

haha nice try...I think he's trying to get a business starting with this.

OP - very nice triple though.  I'm pretty sure lots of people want them, but I have this question in mind is that I wonder if people necessarily need it to be able to place their clipons above the triple because hey have done it with out any problems (especially with the Motowheels clipons).  If I have money I would be your partner though.  Anyways, If you think I don't know what I am talking about then nicely comment haha  [laugh]

I'd love to have the CAD files as well  ;D

I'd be game for a triple as well, assuming 53 mm.

Perhaps if he would sell/donate the CAD file we could check with a few members here to see about doing a batch. [thumbsup]

Hello, all.

As I think I've already mentioned, I'm glad you like the triple ;)

I'm not really thinking about making a business out of this, as mentioned above I don't really have the business and marketing background to do that.
I'm checking with a bit some people how to proceed, and also with the people who have helped me. If in the end we decide to put the CAD files up, I would still like to have some kind of control, and some assurance that any use would be on a purely idealistic basis.

Also, I'm a bit concerned about the legal implication; I would have to be really sure I would not be in any way responsible for what might happen somewhere, somehow where one of these triples might happen to be somewhere close by .... ???

I'd like to take the opportunity to wish everyone a Happy New Year, with lots of fun Duc-related or otherwise!!! [beer]

Bump  [roll]

Panic in Lower Triple park has been added ...

Maybe a bit more of conservative safety factor engineering than modern, controlled-flex technology, but what the hell .... it's just a Monster 900  ;)

Thanks, I think they came out alright  :) The machining is really good, wish I could do something like that.

The holes are for a steering damper bracket. S'pose you'd only need two, but now the bracket could be to either side.

Just to finish this topic: The first lower triple has been put in place:

The bracket for the steering damper also worked OK, even if the bracket itself is not really CNC-quality:

Had I made the triples just for myself they would have been a bit thinner everywhere, and had I found suitable M7 screws they would also have been a bit slimmer, byt by and large I'm quite happy. As they are, the set is only slightly heavier stan stock.

I also took the opportunity to put in tapered rollers from http://shop.marksman-ind.com/ (http://shop.marksman-ind.com/) , but I have not had the opportunity to test the set-up yet.  Hope it will be OK, first test will be the last track day of the year  :)
