Scambaiting. Fun for the entire family.
If any of you have elderly parents who happen to be savvy enough to use email, be a dear and make absolutely certain they are aware of the offshore email scams and the various permutations. I'm amazed that people still fall for these, yet they do every day.

My friend's elderly parents were called earlier this year by some yahoo claiming to be an attorney who was assigned by the court to represent their grandson in an alledged DWI case. Yahoo/"attorney" knew the grandparent's names and phone number, the grandson's name and his parent's names. They claimed the kid was arrested for DWI and was being held in the local county jail. He had given the "attorney" permission to contact his grandparents as he was embarrassed/scared to let his parents know he was in jail on DWI. The "attorney" needed to bond him out of jail ASAP but needed cash to do so and instructed grandma to pull $5,000 cash out of her account and go have it wired to a "special" bonding account in Puerto Rico (I think??)... anyway, somewhere off shore. And she needed to do this right now before some sort of legal hearing took place. If the hearing happened while he was still in jail he would never bond out!

My friend's Mom called his wife wanting a ride (she doesn't drive anymore) to the bank and to a Western Union office. After hearing the story my friend's wife convinced Mom it was bullshit and got her to call her grandson on the phone. He was at home doing homework, was not in jail and had not been arrested for DWI. Pretty slick nasty trick to play on old people. And she fell for it! Had she been able to drive the dude would have gotten the money wired to him. Bastards. >:(

I just won the British Lottery and am waiting for my money - I already ordered my 1199 so you are already behind the curve.  You may want to spring for overnight delivery like I did, so you will get your money faster.  You are obviously not as sharp in these matters as I am.    [thumbsup]
