so i got court out in some really heavy rain again last night for the third time this week. when all of a sudden the monster starts chugging and bogging out. so instead of riding it 2day iv been taking it apart. Turns out the tank is not very water proof, and there was ALOT of water in the tank. so i cleaned the tank, fuel filter, pipes carbs and jets. this took me litrely all day but will i was doing it i found alot of muck in the system. anyway the bike runs really well now so im happy. anyone know of a way to seal the tank better then it is?
Which year and model of Monster?

The only way water can get in the tank easily is if the cap area drain is clogged or the tube under the tank is pinched.
Check those.
I had this exact same problem although I think my boss parking my bike facing downhill 2" away from a parked car had something to do with it As the drain hose hole is at the left kinda to the back of the top of the tank. just mKe sure the hose is not blocked I blew it through with some compressed air.
Go *real* easy with the compressed air, many of the vent and drain hoses are thin rubber with no braid reinforcement.
IE, really easy to burst them inside the tank...
Aren't the inside tubes of the carbed tanks all metal? I know FI tanks with removable ring have rubber tubing attached to the inside metal tubes. I have the same clogged drain problem. Compressed air was ineffective. I was going to try barkeepers friend until I bought a FI tank with far fewer dents. Meanwhile I cover the tank with a prophylactic (garbage bag) device when rain threatens.
Yes, the carbie tanks have metal tubes.
