Title: Current gen taillight wiring/attachment
Post by: Junkie on December 05, 2011, 02:24:06 PM
I just picked up an aftermarket taillight for a 696/796/1100 that I'm going to be using on a project of mine (not a Monster) and could use some help with some things:

1) Any suggestions for where I could get the wiring harness side of the plug, or what it is called?
2) Which wires do what? Meaning: obviously one is ground, one is tail, one is brake - but which location is which?
3) What size fasteners hold the taillight to the tail?

Thanks for any help.

Ok, managed to figure out the wiring order, but not the connector. When looking straight back: tail, ground, brake

Also, for some reason the turn signals are reversed on the light I got (Volar) - meaning they actuate the turn signal on the side oposite where they connect.

But: can anyone help with what connector I need to buy?

If I understand correctly, you need a connector to mate up with your mystery bike harness, yes?

I need the plug that mates to the taillight. I've got a spare taillight connector for my bike, so I can easily make an adapter once I get the other plug.

It's an SV650, I don't expect to find a retail part that does the whole adaptation - I just need the plug that I can attach wires to.

Good on ya for not just butchering the original system.  [thumbsup]

Try here:

They have a link to their EBay store as well:

If no luck there try Jim at easternbeaver.com or your local auto parts store.
The only plugs they have that they know are for lights don't look right, and at $10ish each with minimum quantity 5, I'd prefer not experimenting that way.

I checked some auto parts stores, nothing looked right.

I just emailed Jim, hopefully he'll know what I need.

Ok, Jim @ Eastern Beaver doesn't know as he mostly does Japanese stuff. I may have to just use a few little individual plugs, I'd really prefer a single one though...
