Title: Back to the Beer Tray Post by: koko64 on December 07, 2011, 03:17:57 AM I put the beer tray back on.
And I like it. Maybe its because I'm feeling nostalgic as I get older. Maybe it's because I'm sick of rain and mud all over my back and the back of the bike. Maybe it's because the local police are harrassing motorcyclists with fender eliminators and tail tidies.. But I guess I like that it is part of the iconic look of the original, like the round headlight. I don't mind it at all now. We modify newer bikes and restore older ones back to original. At least you can sit a beer on it. Title: Re: Back to the Beer Tray Post by: zooom on December 07, 2011, 04:01:09 AM [thumbsup]
I have always liked the beertray myself, but I am not normal. On my olde street monster that I had to give to the Ex and on my GF's M620, both are equipped with the Ventura rack system and CF high mount cans, and the whole thing just looks better to me with a beer tray! Title: Re: Back to the Beer Tray Post by: Twizted on December 07, 2011, 04:07:19 AM +1 to the beer tray. [beer]
Title: Re: Back to the Beer Tray Post by: fastwin on December 07, 2011, 07:37:28 AM I've got a CF beer tray. Nothing against bobbed rear ends but I have never had any problem with the tray either. And as it's been said... nice place to set a beer. [thumbsup] [drink]
Title: Re: Back to the Beer Tray Post by: ducatiz on December 07, 2011, 08:17:35 AM If you're still riding and don't love swamp-ass, then you're too old!
:-) Title: Re: Back to the Beer Tray Post by: akmnstr on December 07, 2011, 08:51:02 AM My current S4R came with a DP Carbon Fiber beer tray. I am simply too cheap to through such an expensive piece away.
Title: Re: Back to the Beer Tray Post by: scduc on December 07, 2011, 05:19:16 PM Even though I chopped mine, I did like the look. Just wish some-one would have made a "short" tail that looks good. The carbon one that shift -tech sells just dosn't look right.
Title: Re: Back to the Beer Tray Post by: Steve.In.Atlanta on December 07, 2011, 05:32:54 PM I do like my tray, just not the blinkers. Is there a good blinker that will replace the stock ones and not look funky on the stock tray?
Title: Re: Back to the Beer Tray Post by: xsephirot on December 07, 2011, 06:03:33 PM For those that have a chopped tail. do you still get alot of dirt and filth on your jacket and backpack even when riding in the dry?
Title: Re: Back to the Beer Tray Post by: thought on December 07, 2011, 07:52:40 PM For those that have a chopped tail. do you still get alot of dirt and filth on your jacket and backpack even when riding in the dry? yes, but not like when it's wet, it's minimal. though you'll get used to brushing gravel off your seat after a ride. Title: Re: Back to the Beer Tray Post by: Radar on December 08, 2011, 12:05:11 PM I chopped my tail, S4R, and I'm sorry I did. I don't care for the factory beer tray, but I surely could have made something from aluminum that would have looked OK.
I kept the piece, so I think I'll look into having it welded back into place. I hate brushing the gravel of my seat after every ride... ...and... swamp-ass is the perfect term to describe the wet-weather, tail-chopped rider! I haven't been here much lately... I forgot I like it- Eric M. Title: Re: Back to the Beer Tray Post by: Bill in OKC on December 08, 2011, 02:12:28 PM I went with a shorter Desmoworld beer tray, relocated my rear turn signals to where a tail chop would put them, and it is all easily returned to stock.
Title: Re: Back to the Beer Tray Post by: He Man on December 08, 2011, 06:01:23 PM i wish i never cut my tray and just got a CF fender or something cause i ride in the rain more often then not.
i also would just weld itb ack on except that i cut it once and then cut it again to make it shorter. might be time for a custom job. Saw your post and got all excited. Until I saw the $205 (plus shipping) price tag :oAre there any shortened non-CF options out there? I want one to paint black and don't want to pay for CF. so if you find one, please post it up here. I would like to mod it somehow in the future, so I'd like to see some pics ;) Title: Re: Back to the Beer Tray Post by: orangelion03 on December 18, 2011, 08:15:31 AM My bike came chopped, but the owner kept the chopped off frame piece. I decided I didnt like the chop so picked up a stock tail piece cheap and re-attached the chopped off frame portion...cut up a stock fender to make the plate holder. Later I found the Barracuda tail piece at Monster Part and purchased an integrated tail light to go with it. Found a really nice aluminum license bracket that also serves as a mud flap.

Thanks! It sure was...I hope the current owner is enjoying it as much as I did. This was taken a few weeks before I sold it. I had just "finished" it with the addition of the belly pan. 2006 S2R800 with S2R1000 front end/brakes, S4RS shock, Zards, PC2, KN cones with stacks, etc. etc. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v48/orangelion03/santaanaroad1sml.jpg) Title: Re: Back to the Beer Tray Post by: koko64 on December 21, 2011, 01:19:01 AM If you're still riding and don't love swamp-ass, then you're too old! :-) Way too old Tiz. ;) I'm also finding open pipes, pod filters and open clutch covers annoyingly loud.
