Title: Anolog to digital speedo
Post by: Skyshadow on December 16, 2011, 01:57:04 PM
I search the site for previous threads about this with no luck. I want to take the whole gauge set up off my '08 R6 and put in on my '01 Monster. The biggest issue is that the speedo on the R6 is digital and reads from the transmission and my Monster of course reads from my front axle thru a spinning wire. Has anyone done something similar to this with success? or is there a Ducati model that has a digital gauge reading from the front axle i can try to make work?

I think the next generation Monster cluster (M620, M800, etc) read the speed with a pulse sensor on the swingarm.  The cluster was also integrated into the immoblizer circuit and some ECU reflash may have been necessary to remove the cluster and run with an aftermarket gauge.  You may not have that limitation on your 750.

If you have the pickup in the tranny of the R6, how does it read correctly if you change sprockets?

If you're dead set on getting digital gauges, I think your best and easiest option would be to get a Vapor gauge.  I think Artful posted up a how to in the tutorials forum.

Even though it reads from the transmission it is still just a pulse reader. as long as i can get a sensor that matches the pulse, It will still work.

I'll look in to Vapor gauges, i couldn't find the thread over it

Right, but wouldn't the ratio be wrong?  When you read at the wheel, a pulse per rotation is a fixed distance.  When you read at a gear/sprocket/whathaveyou, that pulse represents a different distance.  So the calibration is important, I'd guess.

Here you go:

The trick to searching this board is to go to the sub forum you want to search in first and then put in the search term.
