Title: Time for a confession
Post by: goldFiSh on December 17, 2011, 09:35:04 PM
OK, some some of you Sydneysiders may  have already been given a tip off last Thurs, but time to now offically fess up regarding my latest acquisition....

KTM 640 Adventure with a few tasty modifications...

This pic was taken at the end of its inaugural offroad adventure with me at the throttle.

Many thanks to my travelling party for an excellent weekend adventure. I learned lots of things. Not only about riding of adventure dirt bikes, but also some things about my new steed - like how there's a paltry 30km reserve in that massive 28L tank, and that's it!

I'll let the picture do the talking....

That's no good Dez, hope the donations to the state's coffers were few and modest....

This tractor will be registered, so it can travel in style and at speed to the dirt, and then the fun begins.
I can confirm that after this trip, the bike is capable of travelling at the state's speed limit when required...

And you'd be surprised how capable the off road tyres are on the road. Kinda makes me wonder why spend the money on super sticky road tyres......

Goldie I'm jealous, when I heard about your 'crew' riding down to give you an escort back to the big smoke, I seriously thought about chucking a sickie and coming down south for some fun too!

You are (will) have some serious fun on this bike, forgive its quirky vibrations and understand that sooner or later you will have to refuel.

You will also understand that standing on the pegs whilst riding down a dirt road and letting the bike move around beneath you makes perfect sense, and that you are now looking at maps (and their roads) in a completely different light.

One question.  Why does the bike have both the silver and the orange bodywork, AFAIK they came in either/or one of those colours.

Thanks Mick,

The fun has already begun!

Vibrations are par for the course in a big single, but this one has anti-vibration risers which work to a degree..... As matty rightly said, when you're on the dirt and the bikes moving all over the shop, vibrations seem to disappear...

Totally agree that up on the pegs and let the bike move under you is natural.

As for the question, this is a 2002 640 adventure R, which came like this as stock colours - only year that they did it from my research. It does not have the dual disc setup that the 2004 onwards bike does but hey, that's only an issue when your on the tar getting to the dirt.... nowhere near the braking that the monster has, but I seemed to get along fine anyways...

Ah, that would be GS man planking....

Surprising how much waiting around you do when your traveling with a photographer and an obsessive compulsive dude on a mission....

Just kidding fellas!

Hey Matty,

Just had a look at the 3 days of your adventure, looks like you had a lot of fun.

But I had a question, where did you keep that dog that appeared in the photo's and then the answer revealed itself.

Yes, it turns out that 'Dockstrada' had him in  the dog kennel that doubles as a tank bag.  [thumbsup]

Goldy, Thats fantastic mate.............. [thumbsup]  Well done i say...........!     [clap]
Why,....from the day i saw you tackling that steep tight, right hander on the special Craigo route Five Ferrys Ride, I sorta knew that one day it would happen sunshine.....!
May I then suggest we do that exact ride again with all of our Adventure Bikies in tow  ?  Cos I strongly feel that there is some unfinished business re that bumpy dirt road lads........ [Dolph]

Here it is  "Nick off Bend"          [roll]

This could be a fun day out , a bit of both worlds, plus the Monster crew would wait at the end for you to catch up   [roll]  Bugga this knee down crap, its ars up and on the pegs for this little black duck from now on     [thumbsup]
It would also keep our Four Muskateers + ! (heard about it Hambo) from their regular run up the old rd. via the radar trap.

Much better to be doing that corner on knobbys and the back spinning up on exit.. And don't be us sure about the waiting, these dirt beasts do ok on the tar as well...
