Title: Build up in oil indicator
Post by: ran on December 18, 2011, 09:44:58 AM
I have a 2011 Monster 696, and I got my first maintenance at around 700 miles and now I'm at around 4300 miles. The dealership said to change my oil every 3750 to 4000 miles, so I was getting ready to change my oil when I noticed that my oil indicator looked like it had white build up in it.

I took a picture: http://i.imgur.com/N5Ija.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/N5Ija.jpg)

I'm taking it to the dealership on Tuesday to get it checked out. Anyone knows what's going on?

Also, the drain plug placement does't seem to be at the same place as seen in the videos I've came across. I don't think it takes a 10mm hex either, is the oil filter even 10mm? It looks bigger. Thanks!

What you are seeing is condensation and oil mist mixed together.  Normal, just  [Dolph]  A long ride at higher RPM to get oil temperature up will help alleviate this.  Your drain plug is a running change, just a newer casting.  Oil filter is the same.  Just more of it shows with the new casting.

Short answer: it's water vapor trapped in your crank case.

You can also take off the filler cap for ~30 seconds when you get done with a long ride to let the vapors out.

Make sure the engine is off :P

that's your bikes way of telling you "youre not riding me hard enough!"

All good advices from other duc riders. Also, if you like to warm her up but not riding her, try to let her get hot (operating temp) before turning her off.
