Title: Gauges/cluster compatibility/repair
Post by: bikepilot on December 20, 2011, 06:37:00 AM
My wife's 620 has a pretty big crack in the "glass" over the tach and extending into the plastic ring around it.  I'd love to spruce it up for her sooner or later and am fond of the white-faced gauges on the S2R.  If I were to buy this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2007-Ducati-Monster-S2R1000-S2R-1000-Gauge-Cluster-Speedo-Speedometer-Tach-/290631403044?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item43aafb4624#ht_2914wt_1389 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/2007-Ducati-Monster-S2R1000-S2R-1000-Gauge-Cluster-Speedo-Speedometer-Tach-/290631403044?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item43aafb4624#ht_2914wt_1389)

Would it work on her '06 620?  Any idea of what years/models are compatible?

I have the red key and key card. What all is involved in fitting it beyond physically bolting it up and plugging in the connectors.

Also, has anyone had success replacing just the plastic/glass over the gauges?

Doesnt matter if you have a red card or not. if the cluster is "mated" to an ECU, from what I know its not swappable. You have to get an unmated cluster (which pretty much means a new one) OR you have to reflash your ECU to remove the immobilizer functionality. I think rexxer does that.

Either way its not cheap. Clear silicone caulk the crack to keep moisture out and use it for as long as you can.

I've replaced lenses in the S2R gauges (Digitech) as they come apart by simply removing the phillips screws.  I've only hear of lost battles with older clusters but I've never seen one in person.  As far as swap options,  I'd call these guys and pick their brains...

Hey Pilot for the $400 hundo you were gonna drop.  Send your ECU off to Houston Superbikes and they will reflash to whatever specs you want for $250.00.  I'm going to have my gauge cluster removed in Marchish if you can hold til that long and I can toss it your way   [thumbsup].  In pretty good shape and from an S2R800 (not white unfortunately)

just be careful b/c if the tires are not the same size (or if there are different sensors) between the S2R and the 620, the speedo will be off.

honestly, I would just swap over the top of the cluster cover and the gauge dial covers and call it a day

I bought an extra cluster off Ebay from a different bike for to use the lenses on dolci's 05 M620 which were cracked...it was a breeze...the center cover between the lenses was a lil more fragile than I thought it would be though...

Post #30 from TOB shows a simple way to rig a jig so that you don't butcher the bezel....

Thanks!  Some very good options here.  I didn't realize you couldn't re-mate a cluster using the red key/key card.  Wacky stuff  [laugh]

MadDuc 20/20, I'm in no rush, please do give me a shout if/when you end up with an extra cluster!
