Looking at a magnet to help change a couple of local traffic lights where the pads will not respond to the bike.  Dropping the side stand, restarting the engine, revving etc. etc. won't change these particular lights.  Looking at this:

Two questions since the last related thread I found is a couple years old....
1)  Anybody using one of these and does it work?
2)  Any issues re sticking a honking great magnet right on the bottom of the crankcase?

complain to the local authority , they can fix the problem with the lights

I used one on my old bike (crotch rocket), and it worked great.  It was actually pretty small and unnoticeable.  I can't remember the brand name, but I've heard stories from other people that some of those magnets didn't work.  I know that cyclists (the guys in the tight spandex) sometimes have something attached to their shoe for traffic lights.

I use 3 magnets at 1/2" diameter X 3/8" thick and stick 'em on the kickstand

I get them free from work so I'm not sure if it would be any cheaper than what is on ebay though

 I tried the cycle gear model to trigger two long lights that I must pass thru when leaving my house. The light was not triggered by the magnet.

 There is a road upgrade grant being used in my city now, and "bicycle" friendly sensors are being added to a large amount of stop lights recently. I complained to my dist. Rep several times and the troublesome sensors near my house were replaced with modern ones.

Pull an old hard drive apart, they have them.

Did you try Turning the bike off at light and Starting it back up. The starter has big magnet in it.

I got one of the green light triggers and never found a decent place to mount it, so I never got around to it. Turns out many of the lights where I lived in TN were on timers anyway. And it seems that most of the lights near where I live now have the sensors over top of the traffic lights, which don't pick up my bike either. I have managed to fix the problem by running lots of red lights. I don't abuse it, Im safe about it, and the police don't seem to mind so far.

Those things are no joke with about 50 lbs. of lateral force to pull them apart.

I've seen stupid people do some pretty stupid stuff with those.

put one in your mount and sit on a manhole if you're constipated.

I find that putting down my kickstand works more often than not.   It's not a problems on my Harley though :)
