Title: Improve Ride Position - S2R1000 (2007)
Post by: nats on June 22, 2008, 03:57:16 PM
Hi guys. Posted this at the old forum but no suggestions at all. I guess the reason being all the good guys are probably here...that's why.

I have 2 questions in total and badly needing some constructive advice:

1. Got myself a S2R1000 - only done 500 km to date. Realized that being only 154cm tall - the stock set up is positioning me too forward. Had a 620 before and added the risers from monsterparts and tilted back the bars and setup was excellent. With the S2R1000 and it's connicle bar, wonder what kind of set up can I mod to bring the bars higher and closer to improve ride comfort.

2. I bought a set of Cyclecat Clipons, Risers (DBR53) with the triple (DTC7) used for one of the forum member who took it off his S2R1000. I'm wondering if these setup will bring me higher & closer.

I rode the bike for 250km last weekend. I can handle the bike, but it was obvious I was not comfortable as I was leaning too forward. The fact that monster pegs are not too way back (like the sportbikes), it was quite tiring to be in that position for long rides.

Appreciate all the help and advice from you experts.

Thanks in advance...
NATS

I have 1" bar risers plus the DP Comfort/Gel Seat, and the combination made a significant improvement for me. The DP seat allows me to comfortably sit very far forward, part-way onto the tank.

With the S2R1000 and it's connicle bar...

Dump the stock bar. Lots of options with aftermarket bars. Ventura for one.

I went with Rizoma tapered bars, they fit the stock risers perfectly (about $100).  The bar bend reaches about an inch higher up, and sweeps back at more of an angle.  It was a great change, if you need more, some of the taller risers or spacers can help there.

One thing to note, throttle and brake lines will be close to the edge of their reach if you go much higher, especially the throttle cable.  I rotated the housing to get more slack.  Check the fitment carefully, you will also need to adjust your steering stops to keep the bar form touching the tank.

aaaaaaand Welcome to the DMF [thumbsup]

I have SpeedyMoto 20mm risers on mine (S2R 800), no problems with cables, wires or hoses.

From studying how the Rizoma rise and sweep will affect things - the added sweep will probably not be a problem. The added rise just might be a problem, but to me it seems like it would only be the fast idler and maybe, maybe the throttle cable. Both of which can be rerouted.

If you do the risers PLUS the Rizoma bars I'm not sure you'll need to adjust the steering stops because the bars will be a lot higher.

WARNING: this is all just thoughts on the matter. I haven't tested it yet.

Firstly, I believe the riser on those clip ons are DBR43 and not DBR53. I got the mechnic to help fit the entire set onto the bike and find that there are some improvements. Altho  the set up does not bring me upright like other street bikes, the lean angle improved like 15-20%. I believe height wise, it's about 3/4" higher than stock position and by adjusting the bars inwards to the max (with some clearence from the tank, of cos) somewhat bring those bars much closer to the rider.  [thumbsup]

All in all - it seems to be an improved setup for me and lets see if it's enough. Otherwise, I will have to move back to using the risers and higher plus more sweepback bars. We'll see after my test on the streets.  [moto]

The bike surely looks so much cooler with those clip-ons. I just wonder if it is as safe as the stock bars - there are obviously more parts and more bolts now than stock....
