Title: Aprilia going back together..winter rebuild
Post by: venomousr1993 on January 12, 2012, 03:49:53 PM
As many of you know, back on October 31st I was hit by a Toyota Prius Driver while I was stopped at an intersection.  He claimed he could not see well and was blind in one eye.  He hit me lightly, but I was not expecting it and it knocked the bike over on its' right side.  I had the dealership get me an estimate and I finally got the check from his insurance mid December.  I got all my parts from AF1 Racing the other day and have started to get the bike back together.

Some pics below.

-Rear Subframe..removed and had wrinkle coated powdercoat
-Cleaned up the exhaust.  I have a single pipe on the way to do a single exit undertail exhaust.
-G2 hand guards
-New clutch/front brake levers
-Painted the clutch cover
-New clutch cover slider
-Rims are currently off for new Dunlop Q2 tires
-Footpeg sliders I made a few months ago from leftover frame sliders and scrap metal.
-New replacement rear set and rear brake lever
-Had new AK-20 Cartridges installed from Traxxion Dynamics in October

.....Debating on Carbon Fiber side panels for some bling or a new Penske rear shock to match the front AK-20's...thoughts??

Agreed - you'll enjoy the bike more with a good rear shock. That said, most likely getting the one you have now vavalved / sprung for your weight+riging style would be nearly as good.

I'd go with penske or re-valve/re-spring if the OEM unit is of decent quality.
