Post by: phantomaz on January 30, 2012, 08:07:46 AM
Hello guys ,I have 97 900 with W heads ,and I found 900ie heads on good price, is it direct swap ,something needs to be changed? I know fuel injected head have more aggressive cams ,what does this change, should I take these heads, the price is really good.

at some point they changed the o-ring location, meaning they went from recess in cylinder to recess in head or vica versa.  try to get some photos of a w head and see if they're the same as the ie heads.  it's the only issue i can think of.  might have been post 2001 or something like that too.

Thank you for the help. I checked the web for 900ie and 900 carbed head photos and found this, they look identical to me:

I forgot to mention that 900ie heads I am going to buy are from 2000 900ss bike.

p.s. I don't know why but there is a difference in the wholes on the carbed 900 from the picture above and this one ,which is from 900 carb too.

Here is a thread from a year ago when I was looking at doing the same thing: http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=46928.0 (http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=46928.0)

Good info in there.
