Title: older monster seat cowl bolts/screws?
Post by: tristantumble on February 01, 2012, 11:49:50 AM
im about to buy a seat cowl off ebay, but it doesn't come with the mounting screws. Before I make the purchase i wanted to get re assurance that the screws/bolts needed are standard and ill be able to buy at a hardware store.

can anyone confirm this?

You can use regular M6 bolts or screws, but you'll need a tool to install/remove.

Thumbscrews can be bought from Monsterparts or your local dealer.

This

And a quarter will make quick work of getting those off if you don't have tool handy mid-ride.   [thumbsup]

I also got my cowl off of e-bay with brackets but no screws.  I went with the M6 bolts (same as what holds the sprocket cover on my M695).  Got a pair of stainless at Ace Hardware for $3.  I've heard stories of the thumbscrews coming loose and the seat cowl disappearing mid-ride, so I opted for the bolts with a set of lock-washers. So far, so good.
