Title: Alternator cover - timing inspection cover question
Post by: metroplex on February 02, 2012, 03:49:13 AM
Is this inspection cover prone to cracking? If so, what are some common fixes? I just heard this from a vendor after inquiring about a case saver for the alternator cover.

Do you see any merit in installing a case saver for the wet clutch cover in your 15 years of riding the M900?

The OEM replacement wet clutch cover and alternator cover is just under $700 each. Every other make of motorcycle refers to these as case savers, it seems only Ducati refers to something else when the term case saver is used.

The 696 has a wet clutch, so the cover is actually the crankcase cover. Do you think an additional clutch cover is warranted?

If you throw it down really hard, it can crack the cover.

It's not very common though, I've seen lots more rashed up covers than cracked ones.
