Hello. Has anyone ran into problems using the Technoresearch VDSTS on a 2000/2001 Monster 900/900S (MM1.5 ECU)? My VDSTS had been working fine for several years, but now when I try to adjust the fuel trim, the changes don't get saved to the ecu. It looks like they get saved, but when I go back to make a subsequent change, the fuel trim value always reverts to 0. ??? All other functions of the VDSTS seem to work OK and the bike runs OK. I checked the diagnostics connector and wires to the ECU plug for good continuity and they were also OK. Thoughts, ideas? Thanks.
Maybe kind of a crazy idea, but reinstall the software on your computer/smartphone then try again?

Thanks. Good idea, and worth a try. I don't think it's the software, though, as I have the VDSTS on two different computers and have tried using both. Also, I can use the same software on either computer without any problems on my Streetfighter (although it uses different ECU/VDSTS hardware).
I'm going to take it to the dealer to see if they can set the trim using their DDS. If that works, then the issue probably lies with my MM 1.5 version of the VDSTS hardware. If not, then I'm thinking ECU or wiring problem. I did check the continuity from the diagnostic plug to the ECU plug and all was OK.
I had a similar issue last time I set the trim via VDSTS on my '00 900ie w/ DP ECU; everything seemed to be functioning correctly, but my changes would not save to the ECU. On a whim, I disconnected the battery after turning the key off per the on-screen instructions; for whatever reason, that seemed to do the trick. I haven't tried it again, so I don't know if it's repeatable or not; might be worth a try though.
Wow! Great stuff...thank you! I'll definitely give it a try when I get back from this next trip. It's kind'a interesting that the 00/01 M900ie (1.5 ecu) has a power supply plug for the DDS. As far as I know, no other ecu has a power supply plug. I wonder if it's powered through the switch? That might help explain what's going on. Thanks again.

Update. The DDS power plug is powered all the time and is not switched. Tried disconnecting the battery, but it still didn't save the fuel trim setting. I'll be trying to get it over to Ducati Bellevue sometime soon to have them give it a try. Fortunately, it runs great. It just has the slightest hint of an occassional back fire on closed throttle decel, which was what I was attempting to remedy.
i've had one do this, but it kept reverting to -123 or so, which meant it was unrideable. replaced the ecu.
Thank you Brad. BTW, all the tuning info, tips and insight you've made available over the years has proven to be invaluable help. Many thanks!

AGREED.
Update.
Problem solved. I had taken the bike by Ducati Bellevue a couple of weeks ago to have them hook it up to the Ducati tester. All worked as advertised, so I knew the ECU was OK.
Today, I reloaded the original VDSTS software that came with the MM 1.5M tool. It worked and communicated with the Monster's MM 1.5 ECU perfectly. Quite some time ago, I had downloaded and updated to the latest software package from Techno Research for the couple of VDSTS kits that I use (different kits for different model ECUs). The newest software works great with the newer ECU tool, but evidently not so good with the older ECU.
So, if you happen to suffer a similar problem with your VDSTS, I'd suggest going back to the original software included with the tool in the kit and try that.
Holy sheet rock, someone from Seattle! [thumbsup]
Try contacting Technoresearch so they can help you live, they'll connect to your pc and help you out; at times the Firmware is outdated and they are the only ones that can update it.
