Title: Re: Triumph Speed Twin Post by: Goat_Herder on February 07, 2012, 12:28:28 PM Wow, what a great looking modern cafe, although the Bonnie is perfectly fine the way it is as a retro standard
Title: Re: Triumph Speed Twin Post by: pennyrobber on February 07, 2012, 12:50:24 PM It's been awhile since I've like the looks of a bike this much. Clean, modern, elegant, with just a sprinkle of salty classic flair.
Title: Re: Triumph Speed Twin Post by: Curmudgeon on February 07, 2012, 01:38:23 PM Wow, what a great looking modern cafe, although the Bonnie is perfectly fine the way it is as a retro standard [thumbsup] But I prefer my standard and its stock looks with just a few Triumph goodies and some aftermarket suspension. Hard to even find a standard anymore, which is the reason I bought my T-100. It has a torquey, relaxed, "cruising" engine though and it weighs a ton, so trying to make it a cafe when it's a lead pipe isn't very cost-effective. It's built to a price and for a specific market. At the manufacturer's level, a 100 lb. diet would cost ~ $4,000+. To achieve that aftermarket I hate to think the $$$. Title: Re: Triumph Speed Twin Post by: Goat_Herder on February 07, 2012, 01:55:29 PM [thumbsup] Same reason I got my '01 T-100! I've longed for a 70's style standard (a CB450/550) but ended up getting the T-100. It fools most untrained eyes into believing it's a restored classic. :)But I prefer my standard and its stock looks with just a few Triumph goodies and some aftermarket suspension. I had recently sold the Bonnie for a small displacement commuter. :( Title: Re: Triumph Speed Twin Post by: Rameses on February 07, 2012, 03:59:11 PM Yes, please. Bonnie was just about "it". 450/550 not my style and they don't handle for sh*t. ;) Oddly, NO bike I've ever owned gets more looks and comments from both sexes, including some pretty exotic hardware. Must be non-threatening. I miss my Bonnie...Title: Re: Triumph Speed Twin Post by: Curmudgeon on February 07, 2012, 05:24:40 PM Great looking bike. I miss my Bonnie... Thanks! ;) Not a great snap. It's Forest Green metallic, gold stripes and New England white. It's an 865 EFi too, so smoother and healthier than your '01 which a pal of mine also had with a ton of Triumph mods. This one might "look" stock but has a custom Sargent saddle, TORs, (Triumph "Off-Road" mufflers), Ikon shocks, Ricor fork valves, etc..., and lately some Sport Demons which are a big plus. As you know, stock they are a buckboard. Just need a bit more preload on the forks soon. It's 95% there. The T-100 is for errands and mellower cruises. The 796 does strafing runs. Oddly it's more comfortable for me for long runs than the T-100, as long as I can keep "moving". ;) (http://gallery.leica-users.org/d/300928-2/T-100-Grab-Rail.jpg) Title: Re: Triumph Speed Twin Post by: DucNaked on February 07, 2012, 06:02:04 PM [thumbsup]

I would buy this bike, I'm getting the itch for a cafe style bike. Title: Re: Triumph Speed Twin Post by: sugarcrook on February 07, 2012, 10:19:36 PM There's much I like about this bike but I love how the clutch and front brake cables are cleaned up.
Title: Re: Triumph Speed Twin Post by: zarn02 on February 07, 2012, 10:57:40 PM I can dig it. [thumbsup]

Title: Re: Triumph Speed Twin Post by: Curmudgeon on February 12, 2012, 07:00:40 PM That looks familiar. ;)Is that in the parking lot of Devil's Backbone Brewing Company?? Good catch! (And I get thirsty a lot!) Best BBQ sandwich I've found in Central VA as well. The ale is just passable though. Pure gas 93 just up the road, so Devil's Backbone makes for a good lunch destination on a long ride. Here's the brewery. I was up there last fall for a concert and some friends and I went there for lunch and some beers to watch the UNC/UVA football game. Only time I've ever been there, but the burger and beers I had were great. I was pretty sure that old train station and stage were the same ones. [thumbsup] Title: Re: Triumph Speed Twin Post by: Curmudgeon on February 12, 2012, 07:36:10 PM Trailer the bike up there next time. Those "hills" are the Blue Ridge Parkway and there are great roads between the brewery and Lynchburg and east to Scottsville and back. Several excellent bike loops are possible. There must be some good spots to stay around Wintergreen.
