Title: Removing muffler on s2r 1000 ???
Post by: Ducragous on February 09, 2012, 04:53:45 PM
I have seen where some people have removed their mufflers, left the cat. and run it like that so you can see the single sided swing arm . Is that ok and should you get it tuned if you do? There is a gray monster on the home page like this.

Looking to remove my mufflers on my s2r 1000 and just run it with the catalytic converter like I have seen on a lot of monsters like mine. Would like to know if you need to modify anything or if it could cause problems. Thanks

The short answer is you will be fine.

The detailed answer is; once I cored my cans the bike would occasionally die at stop lights and while it sounded better it was no AS smooth.  That said it was not a big difference but enough to where I did not want to go any farther with mods till I had a DP ECU.  If I recall correctly my temp guage was also a few degrees higher and about 17* warmer that a friends S2R 1000 with the same mods and a fat duck.

A local ducati tech in town said he has seen stock bikes running lean and recommends an ECU or such to get more fuel into them before modding.

And finally, have you heard a Duck straight out the udder?  To each his own but it is not for me.

i ran my 06 2sr1k with just the udder from 1200 miles to around 6k...no issues

...other than it was way to frickin loud! i would have a stunned feeling after a half hour ride, even with ear plugs in.

Loud, very loud. I ran mine with just the cat, and I can say that I did notice a little lack of performance. That being said, I decided to swap the mid pipe and run aftermarket exhaust and had the ECU remapped. Quite happy with it. If you dont want to  >:( the neighbors, then run it that way for a couple of weeks. See if you can live with the noise and the few little con's.
