Title: Open Clutch Pro's and Con's Post by: tassieduke on February 19, 2012, 01:50:09 AM G'day all,
Not sure if this has been covered or not as I am fairly new? But what are the pro's and con's of having a open clutch? I guess aesthetics would be a good pro,but is there any con's i.e water ingress, debris getting in,what is the chance of a stone lodging itself in etc Cheers Title: Re: Open Clutch Pro's and Con's Post by: Raux on February 19, 2012, 01:58:33 AM There are a few very long discussions about this in this section. a quick search for your subject title and you'll have your pick.

-looks Cons: -Clothes/shoelaces can get pulled in -When wet there is slippage before the water is spitted back out -Minimal chance of rock chips but you never know what can happen Title: Re: Open Clutch Pro's and Con's Post by: Scoober1103 on February 24, 2012, 06:02:18 PM Afternoon mate, up here in Queensland an open clutch offers better cooling as well and therefore better longevity. Up here though the local powers [leo] frown upon and will issue infringements for them but only on rare occasions I've heard! Apparently a child could poke his finger in there........would want to be able to run fast!

however...if you store the bike outside, live somewhere wet, and are going to let it sit for long periods of time an open clutch is a bad idea. do what you like the looks of the best.
