Title: Boom Tubes Questions
Post by: The ModFather on February 19, 2012, 06:49:54 AM
Looking at getting some Boom Tubes. A little concerned about the backlog and the delay in getting them with riding season approaching but I've been wanting them for a while and already sold my REMUS. I'm putting them on a Monster 620 can anyone comment on how difficult the installation is? Do I need to punt this mod to my local Duc shop? Are there any other options similar to Boom Tubes that anyone is familiar with?

Sorry this isn't an answer to your question, but I had a question about the Remus.  I'm considering the remus for my monster 1100 EVO and just wanted to know if you have any advice that might help me out?  I love the look of the termi but that's over double the cost.
Thanks

I think they're very comparable in terms of quality. What it really comes down to then is which exhausts you're comparing. Personally I dont need to pay for the Termi logo and was very happy with the Remus. I just prefer the fully naked look of Boom Tubes as opposed to high or low pipes.

I like the boom look also, but heard there is a power loss

If you have a 4V monster, hopefully Mark @ motocreations will be getting a lot of 4V exhaust being built in bulk as to get many shipped out. Don't quote me on this, plans may have changed but I believe he is taking care of orders that were never billed but placed last year, as soon as he is done with this and gets going (March..ish) he will take orders. For the install... I actually didn't do mine, Mark did (live close to him) he has it down to a science, but it seems relatively straight forward. They are worth the wait that's all I'm sayin

Installation is pretty straightforward.

The hardest part for me was getting everything lined up and slid into place in the tight confines around the back of the engine.

Worst case, you may want to have an extra set of hands to hold the pipes in alignment while you bolt them to the heads.

Truthfully, if you haven't ordered them already, chances of getting a set in time for this upcoming riding season are pretty slim.

Other options include the ExBox and whatever you can come up with that you or your local muffler shop can build.

2 Valve. http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photos/2006models/2006models-Ducati-Monster-620Dark.htm. (http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photos/2006models/2006models-Ducati-Monster-620Dark.htm.)
The boom tubes I think give any monster a very unique look. On yours they would look great since your bike is black.

I would send Mark a PM or just email him. He has always been very responsive.

out of interest, and for the greater good of monster owners, could someone please measure their boomtubes for me? please?

im after diameter and length of the pipes (front and rear pipe), and the length from head to merge.

Cheers Clint

Which BoomTubes are you looking for?  I have the BoomTubes on my M1100 and I believe the diameter is 2".  I can measure the length tonight.

Mark makes them per the specification of the bike. You would have different diameters for 2v versus 4v. He also makes them shorter or longer based on the customer.

ahh, i was interested with concern to comparing his pipes to the theoretical ideal pipes for the said motor. as it has been said numerous times that they are a slight downer in power compared to stock, i wondered if that was because of them not being ideal length and volume of header. im interested as i wanna make pipes for mine but just dont wanna go backwards so anything i can work out from existing setups is a great help.

if anyone can tell me the dimentions of their boom tubes and motor, id like to compare them to the theory. so id need overall length of each pipe, the distance from head to crossover/merge and the diameter.

cheers Clint

you might get a response from Mark @ Motocreations on this information.

I've not had a lot of luck. I've been calling every day for the past 3 days (left one voicemail) and I've sent emails to info@motocreations and marksavory@motocreations but still get no response. I wonder if he's out this week for some reason. I just want to buy them before my tax return money has to get spent on something else! I dont want to wait the 6 months for a set but I dont see another option as I cant stand the look of the Quat-D ExBOX and I dont know anyone reputable in Chicago to make me a similar exhaust. Plus I'd rather go with an exhaust thats been proven as a quality component versus taking my chances on a possible hack job. So I guess I'll keep trying.

If you check his website under exhuasts he has an update:

"Exhaust Systems
note: February 2012. We are currently revamping how the products are ordered and listed from our prior website to make it more clear on purchase, options available and more.

With our 2012 exhaust orders, I am currently contacting enthusiasts from 2011 inquiries to give them first chance in ordering. (and currently we have a backlog queue in building them as I’m still short staffed) I am project early March for opening up all ordering for 2012 enthusiasts.

Also no 4V exhausts until mid-March. I just do not have the working hours to get those into queue yet due to 2V systems and finishing a couple of customer projects for early March delivery and to get more room in my shop.

Thanks-

Mark / MotoCreations"

Honesty I don't see you ordering a set and getting it queued into production until the July-September timeframe and receiving it sometime in 2013.

Wow that's pretty bleak for this years riding season. I foolishly sold my Remus exhaust to help fund this purchase so now I am without an exhaust. Any ideas out there on what other options I might have? I guess I'll have to consider a heavy big old ExBox if I don't want to lose a year of riding. Damn!! I hate buying sonething if its not what i really want. I know every time i look at it ill wish it was Boom Tubes. I can't believe Boom Tubes are the only option like this!! Well maybe I'll get a miracle when I finally get a hold of Mark. I'm due for some good luck. Any thoughts guys?

Someone has to have a stock exhaust laying around that I'm sure you could get cheap as a stopgap measure. Go to the "parts wanted" or "for sale" area.

I have my stock system still.. Depending where you live..and I have never sold anything over the forum before... but I rode my bike just up to the catalytic converter for a couple months... but I'm not sure..

Okay heard back from Mark and I'm all good. In a previous thread on Boom Tubes I saw a recommendation to go with the ceramic coating to avoid issues with exhaust leaks. Whats the consensus on this?

No doubt about that, I have the 'pencil tips' on mine, which is a short system for extra cornering clearance, love them! If you want more pics just say so. Or just check out Mark's website and you can see some pictures.

Mine were the black ceramic coating on my dark. It just looked mean as hell.
