Do you think ducati made a wise choice splitting off the sf line? Title: Re: recent news on monster sales Post by: zooom on February 21, 2012, 04:05:54 AM Mts out sold monster last year! Do you think ducati made a wise choice splitting off the sf line? I think between the SF line, and the new incarnation of Monster's just not grabbing the customer in the same way the old Monster's did....I am not surprised though....the Monster line pulled Ducati's bread and butter train for a lot longer than people give it credit for... Title: Re: recent news on monster sales Post by: thought on February 21, 2012, 07:33:12 AM What were the numbers? If you combined the sf sales with the monster sales is it a lot closer? I think that once the sf848 comes out and you basically consider the sf1098/848 the new gen S4 it might work out a bit diff.
There is also prob something to be said about the monster buying population getting a bit older and now looking to a more comfortable bike. I'm not surprised it outsold the Monster. I'm not surprised it outsold the Monster. Yeah, the 1200's "four mode" operation is pretty tempting. Performance mode gives you quite a bang for your buck and you still have basically an upright comfortable bike to ride. The SF and Monster are really the same market and should be considered the same bike for market share purposes. It wouldn't surprise me if the Monster is whittled down to one or two models or just as an entry model. Who knows? I must be in the minority since I don't lust after a more complicated, higher hp upright like the MS. But seeing the numbers tells me that end of the market has the means. . . and I'd wager if the MS / 20k MSRP crowd was buying, then the Panigale will also do well. The SF is an extension of the Monster (replacing the S4R of course), but at this point it's become more of a detuned, streetable 1*98. Which is okay. Makes me wonder if the 'new' design being so radical (and no longer an evolution of the trellis) had anything to do with the Monster's numbers. Comparing the previous S*R models to the new Monster would be interesting. Title: Re: recent news on monster sales Post by: tilt on February 22, 2012, 08:06:07 AM I think that the current recession that we are in might be playing a factor in monster vs. MT sales. The price point isnt going to be a factor for the older more financially stable market that is aimed at while the monster an entry level bikes market isnt as likely to purchase or able to do tighter credit restrictions.

no surprise it did not sell as much. but still MS over selling is surprising. Glad they improved the look of MS coz it was one ugly looking bike. |
