Title: Is it safer to ride if your are a girl ?
Post by: ducatigirl100 on February 21, 2012, 11:32:03 AM
Hi, new topic  ;D

When I put my "full protection whether gear" ( boots, pant, jacket and big gloves [thumbsup] )   There someting that I noticed.   Car's around me  seem to be, let's say..... a lot less cooperative  >:(

Obviously whit all that gear on me I look a lot Less feminine. and it happen only when I wear all my gear. And when I'm not wearing all that stuff  cars ( well mostly guy's ...lol   [cheeky] ) pay more attention and they are more cautious.  ;D

Has this ever happenned to you ?...  share...  :)

not necessarily pink, but there are certain cuts and styles to leathers that scream 'woman rider'

Raux beat me to it!  If you don't pink, I guess you could go with purple.

I've never been out without at least a jacket and a helmet, so I can't say I have ever noticed a difference.

have you been watching "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy?"  how would you even notice the cut of a jacket at speed?

Some of the women's cut are aggressive enough that you can tell... due to mostly the shape of the hips/waist.

Generally, the tighter and more fitted it is the easier to tell... and who am I not to suggest that girls shouldnt be wearing more skin tight leather anyway ;) haha

for example:

Ever notice that bikers with tattoos, 1% badges, colors, beards, beer bellies, etc. get lots of respect from cagers?  If respect is what you want.....don't let them 'push' you around  [thumbsup]

Not all women are porn-model shaped, 110-pounds or less, and a size 0-3. Two of my sisters are 5'10" or taller and my wife is 5'11".

The point I am trying to make is that those "women cut" jackets and leathers are not even offered in sizes that taller and wider women can wear.

They are specifically designed for smaller, petite women. My wife is several sizes larger than any offerings she's seen of those lines of clothing. Then again, how often do you see 5'10"+ women even on motorcycles? Those clothing lines make most of their sales to the women that my wife calls "curb monkeys". They sit on the curb where guys cruise around on their bikes and say "Can I have a ride on your mototrycle?". Or they are geared (pun intended) for the girlfriends of those guys who only ride to pick up girls. She calls those guys "parking lot warriors" or "parking lot racers"...where the girl's looks mean more than anything else.

i ride with a really great rider friend and she loves turns and is fast and good.  Track day, she is out there out-riding a lot of other riders.  She is currently looking for sponsorship to race on track and got small funding here and there.

I notice when I ride with her on the street, a lot of male car drivers will take a 2nd look and have 2 reactions.   1-Cool high five signal or peace signal or 2- get testy and try to entice her to race them by revving their car engine.  That part is not safe.  But definitely lots of look from drivers who then get distracted.  Female drivers are excited to see a girl rider amongst the dudes.

It's easy to see in this particular instance that she is a girl rider because of her petite figure, hips and bit of hair sticking out I guess.  I know it by her ass to be honest   [roll]

It is amazing how many non bikers will come and hit on her if she is parked on the street.  It seems everyone that stops and talks to her  can't wait to tell her that they have a bike and talk specs and want to race her and ofcourse eventually ask her number so that they can ride together.  It's hilarious to watch and she loves it.  She gets more females coming to talk to her and ride with her than the rest of us dudes (old farts) next to her.  Bastard.  Ha Ha

i probably do act different cause it's sort of a novelty seeing a woman riding.  i probably pay more attention to see what she's riding, what gear she's wearing to gage her level of competence.  skilled female riders automatically get an extra 20 pts in my book.

They like to make sure the guys they pass know they've been passed by a Lady...   ;D

The two Ladies on the left in the front row are 5'11" and 5'10"...
The one next to me in the back row is about 5'9"...

Of course, when the guys wear tutus too, it's not so easy to tell...   [roll]

My wife used to be one of the fastest ones around and she was even offered a race bike and sponsorship in the mid 90's but turned it down. She was always being hit on and having people come to the area to see if her reputation was true.

It's funny now, because she is no longer 130 pounds (due to multiple health reasons), and when she passes people, they *may* suspect a female by the ponytail, but usually don't. It's hilarious to get to a hangout after some fast twisties and passing people to have the guys she passed pull in and find out they were passed by a girl. Then they get even more embarassed when they find out she is disabled, has to change gears with push button controls, and is "slow" these days because she can't slide off the seat any more (and the fear of another crash actually resulting in losing her leg).

In the mountains, where we ride 95%+ of the time, no one notices or cares if she is a girl or not. She's been forced off the road on at least one occasion by someone in a cage, and she's had plenty of people try to force her to stay on the wrong side of the road with an oncoming curve (during legal passes), steer toward her on a pass, try to play "chicken" with her, and all sorts of other cr@p like this. Being a female doesn't mean anything around here. It may be different when cruising around town, but my wife never rides in town.

It happened to me once ( whit all my gear..lol) the guy was kinda in the "middle of the road" on 2 lanes and was driving really slow ..he was waiting for me .. when i tried to pass his he immediately push me on the upcoming traffic on the other side of the boulevard !! and when I tried to get out by turning on a other street the guy tried to cut me ....       I manage to pass I'm  kneedown  in the 2 feet betwen the sidewalk and is car while Turning into the corner twist the trothle and got away ! the guy  tried to kill me whit is car because of road rage [bang] !

You dudettes and dudes are lucky in Canada, here in the UK the police are downright useless when it comes to tackling dangerous and abusive cagers, they find it's far easier to pull the biker over and give them a talking to for riding in textile jackets not leathers.....

Yes I have had this happen..

hmmm i have my reservations about that.  Lot of cagers will easily report any biker that passes them fast etc and get in trouble.  Or if anyone has it in for you just a couple of calls and false charge.  nah....

the better witness it before charging.  that is why i hate the freakin' traffic stop camera's.  It used to be cops had to catch you in the act, not a stupid camera.  BS.

I've just double check it  :)    It's was a prevention program from the "Sureté du Quebec"  [leo] If we see somebody whit road rage we can call 310-4141 ( in Quebec only).  We give plate numbers + all the info ......If they receive a number of complaint's they send a warning to the person that he has been reported ..

Sadly, it's no longer in place :'(   but we still can call 9-1-1 ;D

But, do the traffic cameras pick up the bike? I mean, it first has to know that the bike was present and passed for it to snap the pic.. I thought they used the same sensors in the ground to spot a vehicle running a light..

I think the camera's here (Baltimore) all use motion sensors not ground sensors.
