Title: Racing cams for Hyper 1100?
Post by: stopintime on February 27, 2012, 05:56:31 AM
Are there alternatives to the DP cams/ECU kit?   (96451008B)

HM has a lot of it's power down low, so more power up high is the goal.

(no, not for me)  ;)

http://www.kaemna.de/cms_en/katalog.htm?&view=artikel&artikel=2397 (http://www.kaemna.de/cms_en/katalog.htm?&view=artikel&artikel=2397)

Inlet: 0.13 mm - 0.18 mm
Exhaust: 0.15 mm - 0.20 mm
All closed: 0,05mm - 0,10 mm
-Parameters for opening and closing at 1mm of lift:
Inlet open 32°
Inlet closed 80°
Exhaust open 74°
Exhaust closed 36°
-Max. valve lift:
Inlet: 13,1mm
Exhaust: 13,1mm

Those are some pretty radical cams... lots of lift and lots of duration.
I used a similar spec cam (300 deg duration and 107 lobe center and 12.6 IN / 12.1 EX Lift) in a 981cc V-twin Yamaha.
It was pretty worthless below 4000rpm, but pulled hard on top.
Idle screws on the flatslide Mikunis weren't long enough to get it to idle.  :P
Not street friendly, for sure....

According to Brad Black's info:
http://www.bikeboy.org/duccamspec.html (http://www.bikeboy.org/duccamspec.html)

DP DS1000

Duration IN - 277  EX - 274
Centerline IN - 113.5  EX - 115

Lobe seperation - 114
Overlap - 47

V2-03-300

IO/IC - 36/65   EO/EC - 63/22
Duration IN - 281  EX - 265
Centerline IN - 104.5  EX - 110.5

Lobe seperation - 108
Overlap - 58
Lift IN - 13
Lift EX - 11.4

Ive heard and read in a couple spots that the hyper evo cams were better than the dp cams. But I still haven't seen written proof or can specs.

Kaemna definitely seem to know their ass from a hot rock.
So, I'd give them a ring and see what they say.

IMO, the DP cams are meant to be a street-friendly solution.

Purportedly, there's differences in fitment dimensions between 1100 and 1000 cams.
I've no FHE, but Brad sez they're different.

Desmoworks posted on another forum that the kit cams are the same as these "racing" cams: http://store.proitalia.com/ducati-10001100-ds-racing-camshafts-p-99721.html (http://store.proitalia.com/ducati-10001100-ds-racing-camshafts-p-99721.html)

I don't know how "racing" they are compared to the NCRs listed by Kämna though. HM is very "street friendly" stock, so it doesn't take more than average cams to make them feel more "racing" I suppose...

Vee Two is back in business, I saw cams on Brooke Henry's site.
How do they compare to the NCR and DP specs?
Is it for a race or street bike?

Those are the dp cams for 1000/1100ds bikes, but are now no longer available.

I remember the 900 Veetwo cams were a handful to install, but i don't know if the 1000/1100ds  had the same troubles.
