Title: M1100s owners, rear shock ?
Post by: DucNaked on February 27, 2012, 07:24:54 AM
I'm curious what rate spring came on your Ohlins shock? My tech says I've got a "dump truck" spring on mine. ;D Mine is a 13, wondering if it got the wrong spring upon assembly.

Thanks

Look at this link courtesy of Speedog:

There is an Ohlins recommended spring rate table but I'm afraid it may not have the correct suspension linkage type for your swingarm.  Somebody will chime in shortly, but my point is that a spring rate for a direct acting suspension may look out of place to somebody used to the ST derived rear suspensions.

If you look closely at the picture of the new shock down the page in this link, the spring is a -49 which corresponds to a 13.3 something rate:

Thanks. That pic answered my question. It's a 13 like mine.

Doesn't mean that 130 spring is *correct*.....

848's come spring for someone about 220 lbs or so, they're ridonkulous.

It's not correct  ;)

I was just curious if it was the spring that came on all the M1100s.

OK, that's reasonable.

I've got a 3rd gen Monster in the shop, I'll try to measure it up and give a guess as to what's a good spring for your weight.

Ducati seem to have changed their springing philosophy from ~130 lb to ~200 lb.

I'd throw a -31 (that's a 9.68 kg/mm 542 lb/in) spring on there for ya at 190ish lbs.

Or a 550 lb/in domestic spring (Eibach, RaceTech, etc.)

That's an educated guess, I've not had a go at the suspension on a 3rd gen Monster.
