Title: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: Count Zero on March 05, 2012, 03:02:50 PM I'm a happy guy...
Duc750's 2001 M750 is now mine....it just showed up here in St. Louis today. And I already love it. It's an 11 year old bike, and has it's share of wear and scratched plastic. But it's exactly the bike I was looking for to go along with my big Harley Street Glide. A little chilly here still, but have spent the afternoon rolling around and loving it. At the shipping depot when I picked it up: (https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/s320x320/432328_3173485228015_1592093753_32701166_1963005153_n.jpg) . And at home, with the two Harleys: (https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/422732_3174833581723_1592093753_32701602_484499660_n.jpg) Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: muskrat on March 05, 2012, 08:20:03 PM Congrats. My Ducs share a garage with a Harley also. [thumbsup]

[thumbsup] Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: dark_duc on March 05, 2012, 09:12:47 PM You got a great one! Enjoy! [thumbsup]

now get rid of the Harley. Title: Re: ab Post by: kopfjäger on March 05, 2012, 09:40:42 PM Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: muskrat on March 06, 2012, 06:20:21 PM Don't get rid of the hogs. They don't have expanding tanks. :P
Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: Gadgetech on March 06, 2012, 06:56:57 PM Don't get rid of the hogs. They don't have expanding tanks. :P My thoughts exactly! I have a road glide and love how both bikes have their own personality. Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: Count Zero on March 06, 2012, 08:00:45 PM It would take a Jaws Of Life to pry me away from my Street Glide.
I got the Monster as a compliment to my SG, not a replacement. That'd be silly. They're of two totally different concepts and purposes. And despite it droppiong into the 30's after dark, I gave the Monster a good first day & put 90 miles on it. As long as work leaves me alone, I'll probably be putting more than that on it tomorrow, heading to the back roads along with the 695 that got me wanting my own Monster in the first place. Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: The Bearded Duc on March 06, 2012, 08:39:03 PM Ha, first time I've seen this thread!!
Great shot, looks good next to it's playmates!! [thumbsup] I'm glad you love it!! They don't have expanding tanks. :P Neither does this bike ;)Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: muskrat on March 06, 2012, 10:31:55 PM yep, two different styles for different purposes. I get shit from the local Duc group but don't give a shit. My Electra Glide plus trailer, that's right I tow a trailer on long trips, is perfect for lumbering the mountains.
Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: Nottsbiker on March 07, 2012, 05:48:23 AM One of my mates has a 1200 Sportster converted into a Cafe-Racer and we continually rip him over it 'I see the council's left their tractor ouside' etc and get 'wop tractors' etc in return - its all good fun ;)
Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: SupraGuy74 on March 08, 2012, 12:54:23 AM My garage is also shared with a electra glide ;D

But it's like having the best of both worlds: Big American muscle-car & sleek little Italian sportscar. Just a matter of what kind of ride I'm doing, and what kind of mood I'm in. :) That being said, yesterday was real nice, so put 100 miles of backroads on the Duc with my friend & his 695....the bike that made me suddenly go "Ok hun, I'm stealing $4000 from the savings and buying another motorcycle!" (thank god she rides, too) . (http://www.driftpirates.com/pics/bike/Ducati/monsters01.jpg) . (http://www.driftpirates.com/pics/bike/Ducati/monsters02.jpg) . Meh....jacket is still buckled at the bottom, flaring out making me look fat. Blech. (http://www.driftpirates.com/pics/bike/Ducati/monsters03.jpg) . And a nice pic of both my bikes together: (http://www.driftpirates.com/pics/bike/Ducati/SG-Duc-01.jpg) Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: lethe on March 08, 2012, 04:43:59 PM And a nice pic of both my bikes together: hmmmm. it's looking at the rear of the Harley saying "WWSDD?"(http://www.driftpirates.com/pics/bike/Ducati/SG-Duc-01.jpg) old reference that the bike would understand [cheeky] Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: Count Zero on March 08, 2012, 04:48:37 PM "What Would SpeedDog Do?" (a guess)
I'm trying to think of a personalized plate for it, now. Best idea so far is "TRNSTR", because from the first time I saw a picture of the bike, it always makes me think of Tron. So the nickname for the bike has become "Tronster" [laugh] Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: justinrhenry on March 08, 2012, 04:50:16 PM And a nice pic of both my bikes together: (http://www.driftpirates.com/pics/bike/Ducati/SG-Duc-01.jpg) nice bikes! Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: lethe on March 08, 2012, 04:58:28 PM "What Would SpeedDog Do?" Runs like a CHAMP. He & SpeedDog took good care of it. And while on the subject, big kudo's to Sean for being a GREAT guy to work with! Between buying it, setting up shipping and everything else, I couldn't have asked for a better person to deal with. Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: The Bacon Junkie on March 08, 2012, 06:50:29 PM used to be SacDuc's, no? kinda sorta... Just got it from Sean (Duc750). Here's the scoop... Miles, (duc_poultry) bought Sac Duc's M750. Miles bought a bad-ass brushed aluminum painted tank from Duck-Stew, 'cause it was bad-ass and he had already put a brushed aluminum front fender and seat cowl on the bike. Sean (duc750) bought the original custom green tank off of Sac Duc's bike from duc_poultry 'cause it was pretty... and because it was bad-ass. So, Count Zero's bike is duc750's bad-ass bike with Sac Duc's pretty bad-ass pretty tank on it. So, that makes Count Zero's bike pretty super bad-ass... [thumbsup] [Dolph] [beer] hmmmm. it's looking at the rear of the Harley saying "WWSDD?" old reference that the bike would understand [cheeky] What Would Sac Duc Do? Why anal, of course! [laugh] Welcome to the DMF... It's pretty bad-ass! 8) ;D [bacon] Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: Count Zero on March 08, 2012, 07:21:48 PM I officially confused...
Except for the simple fact that my bike is badass. [thumbsup] Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: The Bacon Junkie on March 08, 2012, 07:31:43 PM Yes, your bike is! [beer]
8) Want some more confusion? I had put Suburban Machinery bars on my M750, sent my stock bars to another DMF'r who'd tipped his bike over. When duc_poultry bought Sac Duc's bike, he didn't like the clip-ons, so I took the clip-ons from Sac Duc's bike, which was owned by duc_poultry, and gave duc_poultry my Suburban Machinery bars. None of which as anything to do with your pretty super bad-ass bike! [laugh] [bacon] Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: The Bearded Duc on March 08, 2012, 09:34:04 PM And while on the subject, big kudo's to Sean for being a GREAT guy to work with! Between buying it, setting up shipping and everything else, I couldn't have asked for a better person to deal with. Thanks Charles, I'm glad everything went so smooth too!! I could say the same about you, the entire thing went off without a hitch. Thank you! [thumbsup] kinda sorta... Here's the scoop... Miles, (duc_poultry) bought Sac Duc's M750. A little bit of DMF history in that bike!! Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: Count Zero on March 09, 2012, 09:42:19 AM Well...
1: This is the most incestuous group I've ever known.......explains why I like it. :D 2: No offense to anyone wanting to continue the chain of life, but I don't think I'll be getting rid of this bike any time soon. :) Now, off to show it to some more people. It's being VERY well received here. Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: SacDuc on March 10, 2012, 02:51:45 PM Aaaaaaaand...
I bought my 750 used. It was purchased new from Monroe Motors in SF by board member PaulD who is the one who originally had that tank painted VW Fresco Green. That tank is like the new Toasty. What a whore. sac Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: The Bearded Duc on March 10, 2012, 03:01:08 PM That tank is like the new Toasty. What a whore. sac Only Toasty never went anal, or at least not as much as this tank! Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: Count Zero on March 10, 2012, 04:17:45 PM O.o
I suddenly feel dirty. (and I like it) Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: lethe on March 10, 2012, 04:23:49 PM I shudder to think of the things that tank has seen... and touched [puke] [laugh]
Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: The Bacon Junkie on March 10, 2012, 05:11:53 PM ...and the things that have seen and touched that tank! [evil]
[bacon] Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: SacDuc on March 10, 2012, 05:15:27 PM I shudder to think of the things that tank has seen... and touched [puke] [laugh] When I bought it off of Paul he was like "oh oops I forgot to take my stuff out of the seat compartment." It was mostly condoms. [laugh] sac /double entente for the win! Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: Count Zero on March 10, 2012, 05:28:54 PM When I showed the bike to a friend who works at one of the two Ducati shops here, he actually said "I want to make sweet sweet love to your tank."
So yea, it's not drifted far from its usual crowd, apparently. [drink] Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: Count Zero on March 23, 2012, 02:30:37 PM Ok, I've now had the bike almost 3 weeks...not ridden it all this week, but in the first 2 weeks I put about 500 miles on it.
Dear lord, I love this bike. [thumbsup] Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: Count Zero on September 27, 2012, 09:50:31 PM Dredging up an old thread, but I have a question about my gas tank...
I understand it's a VW specialty color, but does anyone know the actual color code for it? Or should I just roll up to a VW dealership and ask their body/paint guys? Thanks! :) Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: The Bearded Duc on September 28, 2012, 10:03:37 AM Hey Charles, how's it going?!
Let me check with Speeddog, maybe his paint guy has the code. In the mean time, it's called VW Fresco Green if thats helps at all. Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: The Bearded Duc on September 28, 2012, 12:18:25 PM Here ya go. This is from Speeddog, paint code is at the bottom....
Quote We have about a half-pint of spray-ready paint in the can, if he wants to go that route. $30 plus shipping. Jim says it's enough to shoot a tank, or perhaps a fender and cowl. It would need a base coat of a close color to be done successfully. Jim says that it's *very* difficult ( in layman's terms, impossible) to brush touch or spot repair that paint. The pearl and metallic won't cooperate. Otherwise.... Volkswagen LA6W, Fresco Green Pearl Metallic, 2001-2003 Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: Count Zero on September 29, 2012, 09:14:35 PM Hrmmm.... Yea, the idea was to just touch up the chip and a couple little spots on the tank.
I'll have to see what my options are. I've a guy or two I know that might spray the whole thing for cheap if I supply the paint. We'll see. :) And the bike runs great as ever. Been on the Harley a lot, but mostly because 90% of the time I've been out riding it's been with other Harley guys. But I love pulling the Duc out now and then and just zipping around for the hell of it. Tomorrow will be a nice 30-40 mile ride on it, I think. Not long, but got a lot to do between now & next Saturday. Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: The Bearded Duc on October 01, 2012, 11:27:02 AM Sounds great!
I wish I've had time for a nice ride, it's been all commuting for me for the past couple of months and I've got the itch!! Title: Re: Familiar Monster...new face Post by: Count Zero on October 04, 2012, 08:45:32 PM I had to run out to our "farm" which is a 40 mile ride out mostly hilly, curvy road.
No way I wasn't taking it. :) Of course, all the slow-driving tourists were also out, so hard to keep a good pace more than a minute at a time. Grrrr. |
