Title: Can I switch out just the cans on the exhaust I have on my bike? Post by: Gadgetech on March 07, 2012, 07:33:58 PM Here's a picture of my bike with the aftermarket full exhaust that came on the bike when I picked it up a couple weeks ago. Would it be possible to replace the cans with something other than the Remus? There is a spring holding the cans on just above the heel protector on the backside.

Those single swingarm came stock with dual exhausts both on the right side. The headers are different....so depends on which set up you like ... Anyone correct me if im wrong. Title: Re: Can I switch out just the cans on the exhaust I have on my bike? Post by: scduc on March 08, 2012, 02:39:22 PM If there is a union where the can and the pipe connect, then there should not be a problem. Most of the setups I've seen however, the can is solid with a section of pipe. If this is the case, then some custom work will need to be done in order to use different cans. Custom work can have many rewards. I've chopped my Sil-Motors and I am quite happy with the look.

Unless there's another pair of connections, quite different and not interchangable - sorry.... Title: Re: Can I switch out just the cans on the exhaust I have on my bike? Post by: muskrat on March 08, 2012, 09:24:09 PM I had the same set up in Termi's on my S2R. Depending on the mid pipe in use you may or may not use the single sided exhaust. I personally think you should trim the ends down about 3 to 5 inches to match the frame and vuala. Here's one of my scavenged S2R exhaust on my S4R shortened.
(http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq53/montey2005/0c8f3569.jpg) you could also consider the shorty GP exhaust which was sold by motivation accessories in Austin, TX. Here's a link to my old S2R being sold with the exhaust. :'( http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/mcy/2864176434.html (http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/mcy/2864176434.html) Title: Re: Can I switch out just the cans on the exhaust I have on my bike? Post by: Gadgetech on March 09, 2012, 03:27:17 AM Muskrat, I like that shorty exhaust on your S2R it looks good.
In terms of shortening the exhaust, where on the pipe do you cut? Title: Re: Can I switch out just the cans on the exhaust I have on my bike? Post by: scduc on March 09, 2012, 05:00:45 AM It looks like Gadgetech's headers are sitting higher that the stock position. But that does not make any sense. That would mean that those cans only work with those pipes. Which means in order to change just the can, custom work is necessary.
Title: Re: Can I switch out just the cans on the exhaust I have on my bike? Post by: Gadgetech on March 09, 2012, 05:16:24 AM Guess I'll either deal with the cans that are on there or put a replacement set at the back of my mods list. I appreciate all the replies.
Title: Re: Can I switch out just the cans on the exhaust I have on my bike? Post by: muskrat on March 09, 2012, 08:05:12 AM drill the rivets out on the end where the straps are, measure and cut then rivet back on. Make sure you measure right since you only get one chance to cut. [thumbsup]
the plus is that they sound better. |
