Title: Im planning on buying the 2012 Monster 1100EVO next week.
Post by: desmodoktor on March 11, 2012, 01:42:46 PM
hello !! this year i decided to make myself a bday present , the 2012 ducati monster 1100evo ..
i ll probably go next week to get it . just had a question abt the maintenance ..
The bike comes with 2 years warranty , do i have to go to the dealer for the 600miles service? im pretty sure i can do it myself . will that void the warranty ?
ive never had anything under warranty so idk how the whole thing works. please let me know. thank you !

They should let you do your own oil change, that will save you some. But as for the inspection, I think that Ducati wants a train "Ducati" tech to verify everything required in order to not void warranty. I thought that the sevice interval was much longer with the new bikes??

DNA wants a full download of your ECU at 600 miles. You won't be able to turn off your maintenance indicator either. If the dealer is any good, IMO let him do the whole check. The bikes take 1,500 - 2,000 to break in anyway. Next service is two years or 7,500 miles. You'll need belts then. Start saving...  ;)

thx for your quick replies guys.
it looks looks like i have to do the 600miles service at the dealer  no matter what.. (how much does that cost; and what they actually do?)
about the 7500miles i dont think i ll make so many miles in 2 years. so i ll do the belts and the valves myself.
i dont think they warranty will void if i do oil changes every 2000miles by myself tho ..

600 mile service is typically ~ $250. It's basically an oil change and computer diagnostic. IF you have a good dealer, that includes a chain adjustment and checking every function, nut and bolt on the bike, topping up brake and clutch fluid, tires, etc., etc.,  and a good road test to make sure you're good to go.

You are competent to adjust your desmo valves, belts?

ive done it on my 02 M750. last winter i replaced the vertical cylinder base gasket , changed tires , brakes, fluids, valves , belts , throttle bodies... thats why i m pissed off that i have to pay that money to the dealer for doing smth i can easily do on my own . so i ll just think of it as ``im paying for the computer diagnostics i cant do myself :) ``

Well..., you won't be a "bull in a china shop" then.  ;) The bike you are buying has 3 - 4 black boxes which talk to each other, so perhaps beyond the basic DIY mechanic. Check out the handheld Ducati touch screen "computer" when your dealer hooks it up. You should enjoy the upgrade!  [thumbsup]

Rubber side down!

Really?
I did the 600 miles (550, actually) service myself. I sure did more checks than 95% of the dealers would do for a 1st service, and I used oil and filter I wanted.
7500 miles would probably bring it in, unless braveness invests me  ;D
