Title: Bent Shift Lever
Post by: SlC07 on March 11, 2012, 04:39:46 PM
All,

I had a pretty mindless screw up today and dropped my 696 as a result of sheer neglect. Basically, I didn't put my kickstand down all the way and when I got back to my bike about 2 minutes later, it was lying on its left side (it fell after I walked away). The end of the clutch snapped off ate the kink and the shift lever bent. I was able to ride the bike immediately after and mechanically everything seemed to be working just fine. The gears were changing smoothly and it appears that the damage to the shifter is isolated to the bent lever. With that said, is there anything else I should check for to make sure that this assumption is correct? Should I look into anything else that may have happened as a result of the drop? Lastly, could someone direct me towards a source where I can find another shift lever without going through Ducati?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Can't ya just bend it back? Take it off and put it in a vice.
I can't imagine anything else being wrong with your bike after a 0mph drop.

If you have access to an IR thermometer and a torch, you can put it in a vice like Blackout suggested and heat it before bending it.  You can google for a temperature.  Too much and it melts.  At just about right you can begin see a change in surface coloration.  Worth a shot if you are planning on scapping it anyway.
