Title: Service one on my monster796
Post by: CFM on March 15, 2012, 08:50:14 AM
Hello everyone,

I have very few post on here but I will try and post as much as I can. All my posts will be centered around a 2011 monster 796. All work is done by me.

So I don't trust my dealership because they are crooks, long story for another day.

My bike is due for its service one and I decided to do it myself. I bought the workshop manual on cd which for the most part is worth it. Also there are special tools needed to perform this maintenance of which the dealership doesnt carry, so I made them but that's for another post. They said they can order it. They don't even carry basic maintenance items like gaskets and o rings, they can order them. Hell I can be a dealership if my response was, I can order it for you.  Anyway, there are a few bits of missing information and misinformation. Those points aside I researched what the service one entails and wrote it on a list. Most of it is basic stuff like oil filter and oil change, throttle cable inspect and lube, chain adjust, alignment, and cleaning, checking tightness on various bolts like engine to frame and sprocket bolts, valve check and adjust, and throttle body sync. That last one is where I'm stuck. I've done all other tasks for service one minus the throttle body sync.

Is there anybody out there than can assist me with this procedure. I have a feeling it will help with my cold start issues.

Please.

Havnt heard of anyone doing a throttle body sync on the 696, only resetting the throttle positioning sensor... Is this what your referring to?

To reset the TPS you cycle the ignition on/off three times....

I need information on the throttle body sync for the 796.  As far as my understanding of the procedure i need to adjust the butterfly valves inside the throttle bodies to be in sync and i also need to adjust airflow to regulate the idle.  I need a detail procedure.  The CD workshop manual has the procedure in it, however its telling me i need the DDS computer and a bunch of other diagnostic cables and doodads that are ridiculously over priced.  There has to be a way to do this shade tree mechanic style.
