Sorry - just realized I worded this wrong - I am looking for a carrier that slides into the reciever hitch, NOT a trailer(I have a 3 rail) I believe 2" is fairly standard = Class III or IV trailers - it is more robust than the 1 1/4", which is for smaller trailers/loads I am taking a bike down to LA & don't wanna be stuck doing 50 in the slow lane, or whatever the speed limit for vehicles with trailers is....
