Title: Replacement Bars for Clip-Ons Post by: The ModFather on March 28, 2012, 05:48:43 AM Got a set of Cyclecat Clip-ons but they came with silver bars and I want black. Chris at CycleCat doesnt currently have any black bars so I was wondering if I could use another brand of bars without issue. I dont think there should be any issue but I wanted to run it by the forum in case there's something I'm not aware of and to see if there's any recommendations on where to get a nice set of black bars for these cilp-ons.

(22.2mm). I forget what the Cycle Cat I.D. is with the Eccentric Adjuster removed. If you wanted to utilize the extra adjustment of the CC design without purchasing from them or anodizing/coating yourself , you may have to turn down the crossbrand bar ends (at the clip/eccentric) to the appropriate size.
edit: CC bars are standard 7/8" (mic'd 22.1mm) turned down to 19mm at the insert. The actual clip-on I.D./ insert O.D. is 24mm.... they are also threaded at the clip end for a safety bolt, guessing M6... But it sounds like I cant or probably shouldnt just replace the bars with any bars.

But it sounds like I cant or probably shouldnt just replace the bars with any bars. I.D. = inside diameter. O.D. = outside diameter. Cyclecat has a unique bar/clip-on interface which allows for angular bar adjustments where many are fixed at only one angle. If a standard 7/8 diameter (22.2mm) bar was thick enough, a machinist could use a lathe to "turn down" (reduce diameter) at the interface (tip at the clip-on) to 19mm and they would work. Otherwise, justsend your bars out to get anodized black. It doesn't cost much. |
