Place holder for suggestions for visitors Places to Stay Places to Eat Things to See/Do (Moto related) Things to See/Do (Non-moto related) SF Quote Cable car lines in SF will be a long wait for a ride, especially at Union Square. Think about taking the F-Market above-ground street car along Market Street and around the Embarcadero Fisherman's Wharf sucks. Drive up Twin Peaks in SF for the view of SF, the Pacific, Oakland, the Golden Gate, the Bay Bridge, the North Bay and on a clear day, all the way down to San Jose. Walk through Chinatown. Alcatraz. Moto/gear shops are all over the place.* Check out Scuderia at Guerrero and Duboce and Munroe Motors is Valencia and 15th.* CycleGear has a good selection and is at 12th and Harrison.* Don't be scared of the Castro (the F-Market will get you there or some of the Muni undergrounds).* You'll likely think its a bit of a freakshow if you're not used to it ('specially if it is a sunny day), but it's worth visiting just to see. There's a great location under the Golden Gate near the Presidio where you can park and look out over the Bridge.* It it Fort Point(?). There's always twisty Lombard Street, but there'll be a line of cars on the weekend.* You can take a walking tour of murals in the Mission. The Ferry Building at the end of Market St. (where the F-Market turns to go up the Embarcadero) is a great place to buy gourmet stuff -- wine, cheese, chocolate, oils, bread, meat, olives, all that stuff they don't sell at McDonald's. Check out the bison in Golden Gate Park.* I have no idea why they are there, but I find them entrancing. North of SF Quote If you like nature, big trees, etc. head over to Sir Francis Drake Blvd off 101 North and take a short hike through Samuel P. Taylor park. The trees are just as big as Muir Woods, there are fewer tourists, and as a little bonus, it is where Lucas shot the speeder bike scene in the second Star Wars movie. (or was it the third?) If you keep going out that road you'll end up at Point Reyes Station which is a nice little town with a killer cheese shop tucked off main st. It is called Cowgirl Creamery and your arteries won't thank you. There are beaches nearby, but it'll likely be windy and a bit cool for taking off much clothing. If you keep heading up the coast you'll come to the town of Marshall, where you'll find Hog Island Oysters. For a ridiculously small amount of $$ you can get a tray, oyster knife, and a bag of Kumamoto or small Sweetwaters and pig out on them overlooking Tomales Bay. (Don't forget the wine/champagne or whatever bev.) As a bonus you'll be heading along some of my favorite riding roads, although in a car they aren't nearly as much fun. (The owner is actually Misak, not Tony, but no matter.) I had a zipper bust on my Sidi Vertigo boots and he replaced it with a beefier one for 16 bucks. Then the other one busted a month later, and he did that one too. Good guy, but he can be a little slow unless you push him with a deadline. Also, don't be put off by the fact that the place looks like a shoe museum and he never writes anything down.
