I searched but could not find any info on my particular situation.
I have a 98' M900, and just purchased a Cycle Cat top triple clamp & clip ons.
My question is how difficult of an install is this going to be?
I have a front yoke stand and tools.....my technical experience is limited though.
Thanks

not too hard, the difficult part is routing the brake lines, throttle cables, and stuff from the hand controls.

Thats what I have read...but don't comprehend!?
Why do the cables need to be rerouted?
The only difference is now the bars are 2'' lower & maybe 1'' further away from the rider.
I guess I will see Friday morning...when I go at it!! [wine]

note necessarily "RE"routed... just getting them on to the clipons and getting everything routed properly and at the right angles, etc... can sometimes be a big PITA. you'll be fine though, just be patient. also, what brand/type of clipons did you get? As most of them have aluminum brackets and stainless steel hardware, be sure to use some anti-sieze on the bolt threads to keep things from galding up.
Corey, don't know what brand of clip on I have here, but they were on this M900 before I bought it.
Triple & clip ons actually look much nicer than my pics indicate [beer]
Do you reccognize them?...Thanks for the tip on using anti-seize!

Those clip ons look exactly like what I have on my S2R1000. Got them socond hand so I can't tell you what brand they are...
You like them?
Yup, simple, fairly aggressive depending on how you mount them and much lighter than the stoch bar and risers...
Good to know!!
Going tackle the install tomorrow [beer]
YUM. those look sharp.
Like I said, just be patient and take your time. It's not a race (yet!)
Wish I could find a sharp top triple like that for my bike. My clearances are so tight with my clip-ons that I don't ever really feel like risking a swap at this point.
Well
all is on and in place...I can't see any issues...new grips are on, should be dry for a morning ride [beer]
time for a beer & dip in the ocean; its 85 & humid here [thumbsup]
here it is

If those are the clip-ons that Rick had on the bike, they're from MotoWheels.

Yep....these are those. Thanks for the info!! [thumbsup]
The look like they may be "out" a little far. How's the leverage? Are your elbows able to be bent and relaxed while riding? I had mine set up like that for a while myself, then rotated them toward the tank a good bit and found it SO much better. You can slide a piece of paper in between my hand controls and my tank at full lock.
Corey,
I might try that ....right now my wrists ache after 15 miles!!
I am thinking about possibly getting or making taller risers if my wrists don't adapt!!!
Just got home and moved them back some, as you suggested...about an 1'' from tank at lock.
Short spin around the neighborhood felt much better on my wrists. [bow_down]
The new position feels like I would have less control over the bike....I guess I will get used to it
Corey
Thanks for the suggestion
Just did my 13 mile commute into work
My wrists feel much better!!
No problem man. It does take some getting used to, the leverages are definitely different. With the really far out like you had, the leverages are similar to your original bars, so it felt natural to you. You'll adjust ;D
One thing to watch out for is pinching your thumbs at full-lock. That got me a few times when i first made the switch.
dude -- how hard was the install? was routing the lines a real pain in the @ss? i was just considering going out to the garage and putting my new cycle cat clip-ons on but i'm not sure i have the energy tonight... how long did it take you and how important is it to have the front stand? i only have a rear stand and a jack right now... getting a barley sport chock from monster parts soon (UPS depending), but obviously that will be of no use to this job.
is it possible to remove the top triple and slip the clip-ons under it without the front stand? thanks
I have a Pit Bull front yoke stand which made the job pretty easy.
Took about 2 hours... But I was going pretty slow, never done any front end work before.
Routing cables was pretty easy for me.
You do need some way to lift the front end off the the ground... Straps, maybe a engine stand?
Don't think you could do it with just a rear stand.
