Title: Brand new 1100evo OIL LEAK! UPDATE Post by: Fireman1291 on April 09, 2012, 04:18:34 PM Brand new DUCATI leaks oil. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJu6wj2hc9A#)
:'( [thumbsdown] I'm taking it to the dealer on wednesday when I'm off duty. I was riding with some friends and they noticed a cloud of smoke behind me, so we pulled off the road and sure as shit oil was all over the engine and exhaust header. We couldn't figure out where it was coming from at first so I called for a tow truck and decided to take video of the oil leak while we waited so I had proof for the dealer and as we filmed the leak got worse and I found out where it was from. I used the tool kit to tighten the bolt(which was way loose) and I cancelled the tow truck and rode it home (oil level still good) I had to clean the whole bike when I got home as oil was everywhere....I'm so make the beast with two backsing pissed. I'll let you know what the dealer says on wednesday. [bang] Title: Re: Brand new 1100evo OIL LEAK! Distracted by something pretty. Part of the charm of ducati I guess. Get it fixed and get back in the saddle. Title: Re: Brand new 1100evo OIL LEAK! Post by: HotIce on April 09, 2012, 04:32:27 PM Wow, that's pretty major leak!

Title: Re: Brand new 1100evo OIL LEAK! Post by: Fireman1291 on April 09, 2012, 05:04:11 PM Yeah I'm REAL pissed. I remember seeing a oil looking stain on the top heat sink fin just right of the spark plug on the head the day I bought it....which is right under that bolt. I thought nothing of it and cleaned it up. Fast forward 3 months and 1900 miles and you have that.....Not happy. [thumbsdown]
The kicker is I just paid the dealer $200 last month to do the first service/oil change and now it needs new oil. I wonder if the dealer will have enough class to just give me a new oil change after the repair is made....... I'll update you all on wednesday after I take her in. :'( Title: Re: Brand new 1100evo OIL LEAK! Post by: phishhead1 on April 09, 2012, 05:09:11 PM good luck
Title: Re: Brand new 1100evo OIL LEAK! Post by: HotIce on April 09, 2012, 05:10:59 PM Did it stop leaking after you tightened the bolt?
/me checks all the bolts one more time once home ;D Title: Re: Brand new 1100evo OIL LEAK! But I still don't trust it. It was pouring out....if that's a normal occurrence then that has to be the worst design ever! Talk about an acihilles heel! Title: Re: Brand new 1100evo OIL LEAK! Post by: He Man on April 10, 2012, 05:20:57 AM thats normal if the bolt is loose. there is a small orifice that is connected to the oil pump to lube the cams. thats why it was pouring out like that.
you dont need an oil change. just a top off. Title: Re: Brand new 1100evo OIL LEAK! Post by: HotIce on April 10, 2012, 06:11:18 AM Yeah it stopped leaking after I tightened it. But I still don't trust it. It was pouring out....if that's a normal occurrence then that has to be the worst design ever! Talk about an acihilles heel! Well, there is some oil pressure there when the engine is running, so anything which is not properly tight will result in a major leak.Does anyone have proper torque values for these bolts? Title: Re: Brand new 1100evo OIL LEAK! Post by: Slim1899 on April 10, 2012, 06:43:35 AM WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! I would be furious as I'm sure you are!!! I'm glad it stopped when you tightened that bolt up...what did the dealer say???? Did they at least refill the oil for you???
Title: Re: Brand new 1100evo OIL LEAK! Post by: Novelo on April 10, 2012, 07:55:28 AM My S2R1K had a slow leak similar to yours when I first got it I thought it was the deal that is I'm the cam cover. I tightened and changed the seal.

Tighten it up, top off your oil, wash the bike and hit the road. Your dealer isn't at fault. They're just basically doing final assembly when they uncrate new bikes. That being said, the tech that worked on your bike should have caught that when they did your first service. I would have. I investigate anything like that out of the ordinary. . . Title: Re: Brand new 1100evo OIL LEAK! Post by: Fireman1291 on April 10, 2012, 10:42:50 AM Im blaming ducati, not the dealer. The dealer called me the morning to return my voicemail and was very professional and courteous. Ill be bringing it in tomorrow morning when im off duty. Ill update.

Post by: zarn02 on April 10, 2012, 08:25:22 PM they never want to loose a customer. doea anyone know if you can use lock tight on those bolts? I don't know, personally. Someone here doubtless does. Also, there may be a shop manual for it here: http://www.duc.nu/manuals/ (http://www.duc.nu/manuals/) That would tell you for sure what is supposed to have Loctite applied, and what flavor you should use. Might want to check out the DesmoTimes manual as well, if you plan to do some of your own wrenching. http://www.desmotimes.com/maintenance1.htm (http://www.desmotimes.com/maintenance1.htm) (And yes, I realize I just replied to a simple question with "Here, buy some books and look that shit up yourself!" :P) Title: Re: Brand new 1100evo OIL LEAK! Title: Re: Brand new 1100evo OIL LEAK! Post by: Fireman1291 on April 11, 2012, 09:01:11 AM UPDATE
So I just took it in and wow....I have the most professional and courteous dealer one could hope for. As soon as I pulled up the master mechanic came out and looked at it and was very thorough in explaining why it happened (Bolt just loosened, made joke about italians and that "franco" must have been more worried about his cappachino break. lol) and he wheeled it around back to install a new gasket to be safe and apply some "ducati glue" (not locktite) and re-tourque all the bolts. So I went in the show room and picked out some rizoma track flush LED front turn signals and some PIAA headlight bulbs and had them throw them on while they had it. So while I'm waiting the parts guy (everyone is uber nice) asks if I'd like to take a demo out for a spin. Me: why yes...yes I would Him: We just unboxed a 2012 848evo stealth and installed the termi race kit and are going to turn it into a demo bike....would you like to ride that and break her in for us? You would be the first rider. Me: Poops pants Him: I'll get the keys, lol. So I come back and wow what a smooth ride with the termi system. Its a incredible bike for around town fun. Just a nice bike all around..... So I walk in and tell him how much fun it was and tells me my bike is done. To which I reply "damn" lol He throws me back the 848evo keys and says "keep it for the day and ride the hell outta it, bring it back in the morning when we open and pick up your bike" Me: Poops pants again. I then got into a conversation with the owner about the comp werkes slip-on exhaust on my monster and he goes and gets the master mechanic and says "Later on today, hook this up to the exhaust gas reader and make sure his bike is running good" O and they are giving me a substantial doscount on the turn signals because of my troubles. Which I really didn't need. Very classy. So all in all If you are in the Tampa Bay area and are in the market for a Ducati you would be VERY wise to buy from EuroCycles of Tampa Bay!:) Loner parked out front of my house... (http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n273/fireman1291/photobucket-24082-1334162744386.jpg) O and they said they will have a 1199 Panigale demo bike as well:eek: Title: Re: Brand new 1100evo OIL LEAK! UPDATE Post by: JustDucky on April 11, 2012, 09:16:36 AM +1 to Euro Cycles always treating me well too. I bought my bike from them 3 years ago and they still remember exactly what bike they sold me even when I'm in the truck.
They also performed a warranty tank swap for me in an easy and painless manner when others were having many problems with their respective dealerships. I am SOOOO taking the 1199 out for a spin. Already decided that will be next (additional) streetbike. Title: Re: Brand new 1100evo OIL LEAK! Title: Re: Brand new 1100evo OIL LEAK! UPDATE Post by: ZLTFUL on April 11, 2012, 11:29:18 AM My local dealer has a very similar mentality. And they have an identical 848 to that as their demo 848...same exhaust and everything. I was >< this close to getting it instead of my Multi hehe.
