Title: Weeping Clutch Slave Cylinder
Post by: TitanMonsterS4R on April 09, 2012, 06:16:51 PM
The Evoluzione billet alum. clutch slave cylinder for my S2R is weeping just a bit from the lower bolt.  Trying to determine next steps to fix.  It's not a serious weep yet, just a little drop every 12 hours or so.  Tried tightening the bolts again and the weeping continues.  Can I pull the slave cylinder without emptying the reservoir?  Additionally, anyone know where I might be able to find replacement parts assuming it's just a worn washer or something small without buying an entire kit all over again.

Here's a pic of all the parts that came with my kit.......

It has to be leaking past the o-rings on the piston.

Disassemble it and get some new o-rings.

You will want to clean up the bore of the cylinder also if there is any glazing or scoring.

Thanks Ducpainter.  Never done this work before, so I assume I will have to bleed the clutch line, remove the slave, clean, add new O rings, remount and then add fluid  [thumbsup]

Not in the exact order you mention.

More like remove, disassemble, clean up, replace o-rings, remount, add fluid, then bleed.

Evoluzione has gone out of business  [thumbsdown].  Trying to see if I can locate a dealer with a rebuild kit.  Might just have to dissemble and measure the seals and find someone who carries that size.

It's probably a standard size o-ring.

Someone had a bunch of Evoluzione parts on ebay not long ago...

I have the Evoluzione replacement piston for the stock slave and it started leaking. I took it to the local hardware store and bought some standard o-rings for 60 cents a piece and it worked like a charm. The size on the bin said O.D. 1 I.D. 3/4 Thickness 1/8. They could have been in the wrong bin though so just check and make sure.

Because you're saying it's at the bolt, I suppose you've determined the leak without removing the slave?

If so be sure to check the o-rings on the clutch rod. I had the same leak, dealer changed the o-rings on the slave twice before I decided to take a look at the rod. One of the o-rings on the rod was chewed up. Replaced it, never had a leak since.

Yes that's my preliminary diagnosis without taking the slave off.  I cleaned the area around the slave to make sure it wasn't just water or something.  The following morning when I ran my finger along the bottom of the slave I picked up just a little bit of fluid.

Plan on removing everything tomorrow to check, clean, replace, rebuild and then add fluid.  Thanks for the tip about the rod.  You wouldn't happen to know the part number for the rod o-ring would you?

No sorry, I just went to the dealer and he gave me the correct part. Check the rod first thought, it's a muche easier job than rebuilding the slave ;D

Took everything apart yesterday evening.  There was tons of grit and grime in that area so I cleaned it all pretty well and replaced the rod o-ring without rebuilding the clutch slave.  Took her out for a short ride, so far no weeping.  Today will be the real test, 100 mile ride will determine if it was fixed correctly.  Lets hope she doesn't leave me stranded somewhere.
