Title: Rear chain guard for 696? (Fin guard for sprocket)
Post by: metroplex on April 11, 2012, 04:31:16 AM
Does anyone know if a rear chain guard is available for the Monster / 696 that covers the lower part of the rear sprocket to prevent appendages from getting caught into the gear during a crash? I've seen them sold as "shark fin" style guards for BMWs and Japanese bikes, but I can't seem to find one for a 696.

These bikes run a large amount of lower run slack when adjusted correctly relative to many other bikes, probably due to the increased suspension travel. Watch another Monster from behind if you don't believe me. It would not be easy or attractive to contain this slack with a guard IMO.

The guard wouldn't be used for containing the slack. I believe they are recommended for the track to prevent your fingers or shoe from getting caught by the chain/gear during a crash.
