I've been using this drop box service for some time now and like it. Anything I put in there shows up on my other machines for me to use.
Any body else use it?

Yep - you can even use the Public folder as a simple webserver. I've run site demos that have goodies like jQuery running. No real dynamic functions of course - but it's handy
Hadn't heard of it. Looks interesting, thnx for sharing!
and here I thought this was going to be another place to talk about poop!...LOL...J/K

You have something running in there now?
I use it all the time to transfer large files between my programmers. We also use it to transfer pictures and videos between friends.
I'm a huge fan of Dropbox. I'd love to be able to land a job there.
It would be cool If you could use Drop Box to move things like, say a Ducati performance Flux capacitor from Ducati Seattle right to your garage.

This may be useful.
Got it. Use it. But don't really understand the diff betw public and private folder. if i send someone a link, they're in. it's not like they can search through my public folders? or can they?
What are the pros and cons of Drop Box vs something like Google Docs?
I haven't figured out how to use public and private folders yet but I do have a Public folder that another user set up and we all use.
Google docs is probably not that much different except for apparently being web based rather than a Shared folder with an Icon in the tray.
OK it seems that google docs are just for docs. It's not set up for DXF files, MP3, MPEG4 and other stuff like that. However you can get 20Gigs a year for just 5 bucks which is cheaper than Drop Box. On the other hand you can get up to 16 gigs for free on Drop Box before you have to pay for more.

From the 'How to use the Public Folder' text document that's in your Public Folder....
The Public folder lets you easily share single files in your Dropbox. Any file you put in this folder gets its own Internet link that you can share with others -- even non-Dropbox users!
Step 1: Drop a file into the Public folder.
Step 2: Right-click this file, then choose Dropbox > Copy Public Link. This copies an Internet link to your file that you can paste anywhere: emails, instant messages, blogs, etc.
That's it! To share your file, just send the link to a friend.
Happy Dropboxing!
- The Dropbox Team
P.S. You can only link to actual files within your Public folder, not to folders. For help with sharing files visit http://www.dropbox.com/help/16 (http://www.dropbox.com/help/16)
I use Google Docs a bunch for work. Its great for collaborating on reports and for meeting minutes. I run our bi-weekly meetings using google docs and www.freeconference.com (//http://). Both services at the level we are using them are free.
I use freeconference.com as well and I used to use minutes.io for meeting minutes but it's kinda flaky. Right now I'm using Evernote pretty heavily as well as Producteev for tasks.
Does DropBox still increase your storage space if you invite other users to join?
I've been using it for a while at work and it's pretty useful, unless you hit your maximum capacity [bang]
Yes.

Yep. Just got 500 more megs when I got my mom to sign up so she could share photos of my buddies little boy getting flung around the back yard by him and myself. Never underestimate the apetite of a 4 yo boy to be spun about, dangling by arms or legs...

Nobody does that for me anymore. :'(
I'll offer my services... but you'll just end of geting dragged around in the dirt. I make no guarantees of take-off for anyone of 50 lbs.
Just make a bunch of gmail accounts and invite "yourself" until you max out the free component. All you have to do is login under the new account in the Dropbox app.
I could do that but I don't want to bother. I'm much more interested in Sad Panda coming over to swing me around, and then maybe I can convince him to help me run some new electrical.

Perhaps Peeny could help you with both of those, he lives way closer.
He's big and I hear he does good electrical.
If I ever make it to Geist night I'll ask him.

Funniest thing I've read of the DMF today. Well done, sir!
I have to build shelves too. Anybody wanna help with that while I make margaritas?
Time to bump this.
Anybody that wants to try it can use this link. If you sign up we both get 500 MB of extra Free space.

I use it for personal use and office work . . .
I just upgraded to the 100GB plan and moved most of my documents and photos to it.
Wow that's a lot of space.
I also paid the extra $40 to have unlimited undo history.
For a while I tried using Google Docs for stuff. It's great when you need something quick and dirty, like a spreadsheet, or if you need to collaborate on a document, but that's rare.
