Title: New tire time, or a tale of 3 sets Post by: Slide Panda on April 16, 2012, 10:40:05 AM So I've happily run Pirelli on my monster(s). But I got me a Stupid(Super)Moto. It's road tires were pretty shagged and something nasty finished off the rear with a big hole yesterday.
So now I've got a choice. There's 3 candiates that are all within a couple bucks for a set. Michelin 2CT, the Pirelli Rosso II and the new Bridgestone S20. As noted I've alway ridden Pirelli, save for the short life of the BT016s on the KTM until they got holed. So I figure I'd consult the educated opinions of the DMF So - let's hear it. Michelins usually have a harsher ride and take time to warm up. Maybe no concern to you though. No clue about Bridgestones.
Title: Re: New tire time, or a tale of 3 sets Post by: thought on April 16, 2012, 01:20:03 PM I liked the Diablo Rosso's a lot on my 796, and the II's are supposed to be just as good but longer lasting because of the dual compound.
That being said, I've heard nothing be amazing reviews of the Dunlop Q2's and I'll be getting a set of those onto the bike after the current set of Corsa's wear out. It also helps that the Q2's are for some reason the cheapest option out of most my other other tire choices. I dont think anyone has any reviews of the S20's yet though... they just came out this year. But in general I'd say that almost all new tire releases are an improvement on the previous generations performance... I cant think of a tire that got updated and actually became worse in comparison to the previous gen's tire. Q2's are great. The Pirelli tires I've had I've liked better than the Michelin Tires I have had. Problem is, I'm never certain which tires are supposed to compete with what, as far as lines go. Some uniform naming convention sure would help the consumer out. Those Pirelli Supercorsas are whats on one of my bikes - the grip is amazing. Had 2nd thoughts and tried to change to the Q2, but they were already out the door. Since I don't feel like trying to resell or return the decision is made.
We'll see how it goes - I have a feeling the KTM is going to murder rear tires so I might swap sooner than I would on the Monster. Despite it only being 305 pounds that big thumper seems rougher on tires than the bigger twin in the duc. Title: Re: New tire time, or a tale of 3 sets Post by: muskrat on April 17, 2012, 10:41:53 AM IMO the Pirelli is the best. I never could trust the Michellin tires, all three sets.
Good choice [thumbsup] |
