Somewhere in the old country a village is missing their idiot.
I've seen a 4.2l jeep motor run in reverse. The owner put a F.I. conversion kit on it (which is bad-ass BTW) but old Harmonic Balancer. I forgot which order it went, but the either the F.I. harmonic balancer or the Carb Harmonic balancer has waaaay more notches in it for the computer to read to determine rpms.
When homeboy went to fire it up, it barely started and then stopped and went into full reverse. Exhaust was shooting out of the intake! He was thinking really quick because he ran to the rear of the car and stuffed a bunch of shop rags into the tailpipe to shut off the air intake and turn off the motor! [laugh]
this is almost as good as the M3 guy who got a sock tangled inside the motor!
OK, there is NO WAY that guy is serious!
Holy schnikies!!! Did you see this add http://digg.com/autos/Epic_Fail_How_does_a_boosted_car_work_in_reverse
got him self an honorable mention.

Quotegeez, you guys post quickly, I was busy running an experiment to try to figure this out for myself
I was thinking "how can you prove that the engine is running backwards" when it hit me, I can use a balloon. So I got a balloon and put it around the exhaust tip. I figured when I start the car it will inflate, but when I put it in reverse it will suck the air and balloon back in. So I started the car up and went in reverse about 10 feet then turned the car off. I went and checked the tail pipe and sure enough there was no balloon, it got sucked inside the tail pipe. So I got back in the car, started it up and drove forward about 5 feet. I got out and looked on the ground and the balloon was right behind the tip. So when I pulled forward it shot the balloon that was in the exhaust back out and thats why it was on the ground.
So yea, engine runs in reverse in reverse, now I just need to do it again and see if I get full boost.
I had no idea! turns out the boy was right! :D
[laugh] sucks all the air out of cylinder
I got a tank engine, AVDS-1790 Turbo Deisel, to run backwards once. It wasn't the same after that. 8)
Sounds like he needs another bag of Sand....... ;D
LMAO [laugh]
A closed mouth gathers no feet ;D
hahahaha nice!
What might be the best part is the dipshits over there that actually thought the dude was serious.
And then kept posting about how dumb he was even after it came out that it was a joke.
[laugh] [laugh]
I didn't get far enough for him to say he was joking. I just knew he couldn't be serious...

OMG.....
When my dad was a kid he had an old suzuki 2 stroke dirt bike. He said that him and his friends used to bomb start it backwards and it would actually run...... no joke. I remember reading in a forum somewhere that if the timing was off (not sure which way) a 2 stroke could run in reverse.

Yeah, they talk about that in the thread from the OP.
There's also discussion of some 2 stroke snowmobiles and golf carts that run the engine backwards for reverse.
Maybe he was trying to race that "direct exhaust induction" vette. [laugh]
I've heard of old KTM 495's running in reverse.
JM
I have seen two strokes run in reverse. They just don't run well cause the timing is off a bit.

They posted the Direct Exhaust Induction sketch in that thread too.
;D
I didn't get it at first. I thought the guy was serious and of course none of it made any sense. engine running Backward ?!? Sucking air out of the cylinder??? What?
QuoteIs there some sort of exhausting intake bypass valve on a DooCatti engine too? [cheeky]
I'm a bit slow. I had to read his post twice. I really couldn't get my head around somebody actually dreaming that up.
On a side note Rotax has actually rigged up some of their snowmobile engines to go from forward to reverse rotation on the newer model Ski-Doos instead of using an idler gear for reverse. It's seems kinda weird but it works pretty well and apparently saves some weight.

I actually got a big teary laugh out of this sneezing panda rendition used for Krispy's second reply...
