Title: Chain adj 2007 monster s4r SSS
Post by: Eldon on April 22, 2012, 09:56:42 AM
Somewhat new to working on ducatis question. Just ordered Chain adj tool can I adj on an axle stand or does it need to be on side stand. On a neither note the chain seemed tighter after a tire change could tightening the axle bolt moved the eccentric.
Thanks

If the eccentric bolts were tight, it shouldn't move.

You can adjust on the side stand or on a rear stand - if on the side stand, be careful not to push the bike off the stand while working with the tool.

Thanks for the reply the pinch bolts were tight. It just seems. Little tighter after the wheel install.

Well, just to make sure the eccentric isn't moving when it shouldn't, try to turn it with the tool before you loosen the pinch bolts. If it moved because of the engine pulling the chain, the result would be a tighter chain, but IMO it's more likely just a tighter spot on the chain you're encountering. Is it an old/dry/rusty chain? Checked each individual link to discover any frozen links?

Newer chain I'll adj when I get the tool and see how it moves.
